Advantages: fan-freakin-tastic shoes, not overly expensive, not sweatshop-produced (a la Nike)

Disadvantages: not yet, no

Puma have come back with a vengeance this summer. After several years of skulking in the background, with less store prescence than Nike, Adidas and even Reebock, they've really got their act together, and come out with some fantastically cool shoes.

Their basic styles have smartened up a bit, and introduced some great colours. But its ranges like the Catwalk (and the new laceless version, the Avanti), with its flip-down tongue, that seem to be the most stylish trainers currently around. Well, either them or the super-cool, semi-futuristic, cycling shoe-based Mostro.

Retailing between £50 - £70, this make - manufactured in Eastern Europe - wears better than New Balance, and a hell of a lot better than the sweatshop produced Nike (a make which always amazes me with its lack of durability... i've known the soles of Nikes, after only moderate wear, to crack apart!).

But after finding a great everyday pair, i still want to go back for those flat-soled, boot-style Pumas, or maybe even the perfectly detailed bowling shoes they do - if i can get up the courage to wear bowling shoes out..!
