Trek Mates Avalanche GTX Ski Gloves
by NotMyToothbrush
I am only an occasional skier, once in a while I may go on a skiing holiday but I mostly just visit my local indoor ski slope to practice. Therefore, although I need the equipment, I don't like to pay higher prices for them as it really isn't justified. A couple of years ago, when i was looking for my first set of equipment, I avoided ... actual winter sports shops because of the likely high prices and settled instead for the high street. When in TX Maxx one day, I noticed a small display of gloves and luckily enough, these were there and at the low prices we have came to expect from TX Maxx. At just £20, getting actual ski gloves seemed like a bargain!
The gloves themselves are fairly lightweight in terms of ski gloves however still much heavier than your everyday glove. The warmth to weight ratio is great though. I have raynaud's syndrome and therefore get extremely cold hands, however even in the coldest climates, if I am wearing these gloves, my hands are nice an toasty and I needn't worry about them at all!
The gloves stretch fully over your hands (obviously) and also fairly far over your wrists too which helps a great deal in keeping you warm and preventing snow getting inside. Getting snow inside gloves when skiing is horrible as you are both cold and wet then - being waterproof, the water will not evaporate out either so you are stuck with the wetness until you take them off!
The gloves have wrist straps which do prevent snow getting in too but have the main purpose of keeping your gloves on. The wrist is very simple to use and uses a basic wrap-around strap clamp to secure the glove. The downside to this over Velcro however is that I have found that it can occasionally come undone a little when skiing if you, for example, brush it past your body.
The gloves are surprisingly durable too. At first they do seem a little thin and cheap but mine have so far lasted a couple of years without any signs of damage or wearing. It seems to have been a good investment! Read the complete review |

Adidas Fingersave Titanium
by kpdude
As a full time member of the 'unfit club', I recently got involved in a kick about with a group of friends at my university, on the all weather pitch.
The only position I used to play was Goalkeeper, so thought I would play this position.
After deciding it would be far too cold to play without gloves, I took a trip ... to my local Sports Direct store in town.
Now living in a small town, the choice was thin. I thought I would take a gamble with these, as they were not the cheapest, but I had heard about the Titanium brand.
Now as soon as you take them out the pack, you can almost feel the strong quality of the gloves.
Once you actually put them on, they feel substantially thick and solid. "Not gonna get any injuries with these bad boys" was my initial thought!
Now I must admit, although these gloves are very sturdy, they are almost too stiff to get any decent amount of flexibility. such as I found it difficult to even make a fist motion.
The actual grip on the gloves were absolutely amazing.
I've only used them once so I couldn't really comment on durability, but I would guess these will last a long time.
Are they worth the extra money? It all depends how serious a player you are. From my point of view they were not as I probably won't be playing for a long time, and a cheaper brand like Umbro would of been fine. Read the complete review |

Puma Essentials Long Tights
by topsyturvy
With going to the gym all of the time, I get fed up of wearing the same things when there so I decided it was time to buy some new things to wear at the gym. I had a look on a few websites but some of it can be quite pricey for what it is, that's why I thought of going onto sportsdirect.com as they have decent sports clothes for an ... alright price. I was looking for some long leggings and wasn't bothered about the brand but these are called tights as they are really fitted, I liked the idea of them though as they pull everything in and are made of the right kind of material. These Puma ones looked good and the price was great for them too so I had to order.
APPEARANCE
These tights come in black and have the Puma logo right at the top just on the top left thigh which is nice as not too flashy with the branding. These have a waistband and are very stretchy, I just went for my usual size 10 and they fit perfectly and they run from sizes 8 through to 18 which is really good. These tights are made with an elasticated waist which is good for working out and they are 88% polyester, 12% elastane and have a small internal key pocket which is handy and I didn't know about until looking on the website. These look good I don't think they would be as flattering on a bigger size but they do look fine if you can pull them off.
PUMA ESSENTIAL LONG TIGHTS
I couldn't wait to try these on when they arrived, delivery was quick and I was praying they wouldn't be ridiculously tight that I couldn't get them over my thighs. When pulling them on just roll up over the calf and they should slide up easily, they shouldn't be moving around much with creases or anything like that as they should be so tight to the leg, like skinny jeans. These literally fit like a glove and move with me which is great the fabric is for flexibility and USP moisture management technology works to keep sweat away and make these feel dry when on. I thought these were great on and made me look skinny right away, pulling everything in.
When on these are great whether you are running or on the gym machines, these feel like skin they are that comfortable on and so easy to move in. I love that the fabric is perfect for working out and even when sweating you don't notice so there is no awkward sweat patches as the fabric is absorbent and doesn't keep damp but dries right away. The waist isn't uncomfortable as being elasticated there is a bit of give, these go to the waist so they are not low and when sitting on the rowing machine, these don't slide down, they remain exactly where they were put on and I love this about them as it makes working out so much more easier.
A lot of women wear these at the gym and now I can see why, obviously I wash these regularly as they do get dirty even if you cannot see the sweat. These are machine washable and so I washed them on a hand wash option and this was quite delicate, I took them out to dry naturally and they were soft and thankfully didn't shrink. I was a bit apprehensive about washing these but they came out great and as good as new, fit exactly like before and came out great so that is always a perk. I like that these come in just black as it looks the best in this colour, you can stretch away in these tights and work out with ease while still looking good in them and feeling confident.
I can't recommend these enough, I got them for a bargain price and the sizing is good on these. Puma are a good brand and these are a lot cheaper than the likes of Adidas and Nike and look exactly the same and do the same thing. I enjoy working out as I feel I look as fashionable as you can in gym clothes but these just makes it easier to move and my performance is better since having these. I can move faster on the cross trainer and cycle quicker on the bike which is good as nothing is restricting my leg movement. I will probably buy another pair of these just to make it easier and save me washing all of the time, thoroughly recommend them.
COST
You can buy these tights in a Sports Direct shop or on their website where they are on offer and will cost you £14 instead of their RRP of £17.99 which is good enough for me and all sizes are in stock online.
