      Your fingers are worth it.

Football goes through faddy, gimmicky phases - and Adidas are inevitably at the centre of them. At the same time that the ridges on Predators - now pretty much drawn on in crayon - were several inches high, these were the gloves to have. And like the ridged boots, the theory sounded pretty plausible. In each of the fingers of these gloves was a semi-flexible spine, soft enough that you could flex your fingers and grip a ball, but sturdy enough to prevent the fingers from being bent back when blocking a shot.

Sounds good. And in theory, it worked okay. The feeling of limited mobility took some getting used to - you couldn't form a fist - but once you adapted to it, they made holding onto the ball pretty easy. Blocking shots in particular is easier - however hard the ball is hit, the glove stands strong and pushes it away.

Otherwise, this was a pretty standard glove - I found the fit was generally on the spacious side, so some may prefer a snugger glove that gives you more of a "feel" for the ball. In terms of lastability, the Fingersaves aren't bad - the palm is a little soft, and can start to degrade after six months or so of regular use, but with proper upkeep, they'll last a season.

Glove design has moved on a bit, but I'm still a fan of these - although they're not in shops like this anymore, you can probably track them down for some turn-of-the-century stylings.

Adidas fingersaves are the new Marmite. You either love 'em, or you hate 'em! I first wore Fingersaves about 4 years ago when they first came out. I was well chuffed because i could buy the junior version at a cheaper price than buying the £50 senior ones. At first i found them bulky, awkward and uncomfortable and to be honest, that never changed. I returned to the Fingersaves three more times, however, spurred on by the idea that they would save my fingers from breaking and that I'd seen some pro's wearing them. Then, after 2 solid years and 4 pairs of Fingersaves I was advised to make my next pair the Adidas Fingertip Aquagrip. A 19 year old lad who wasn playing for a local semi-pro club swore by them, reccommending them until he was blue in the face. I tried a pair on one training session and fell in love. The next day I went straight out and bought them with £35 of my hard earned cash. Immediately I realised that these gloves were far superior to the Fingersaves in terms of comfort, grip, flexibility and performance. The Fingersaves are just too bulky, heavy and awkward. I have never broken a finger with of without the Fingersaves and i dont believe that I will. The Fingersaves just cannot compete with other gloves such as Selsport Wrappas, Fingertips and Uhlsport 360 Touch gloves in terms of grip and comfort. The aforementioned gloves all fit like.....well......like gloves! They feel snug and secure and inspire confidence in me, leaving me safe in the knowledge that, while wearing them, I won't drop much. So, in conclusion, while Fingersaves are a great idea in theory, they are not so good in practice. Don't go along with the hype, shop around becaused there are many superior gloves around. The Fingersave Liga looks very pretty but it aint all that great.
