So I work in Sports Direct for a living and in the golf section we stock these types of socks. So I was working upstairs one day and I noticed that these socks were flying through the tills, and with my store pricing them at just £3.99, I thought it was such a bargain. This is because Ping is a recognised golf name so I thoight these would be a brand to be trusted. So after my shift I headed to buy some of these as my boyfriend likes to play golf and moans he hasnt got the right gear, so I purchased two packs, they were all black, but you can get them in various colours such as Blue, White and Grey, they all have the PING logo on the ankle in various different colours contrasting with the colour of the sock itself.
I headed home and gave them to my boyfriend who wore them the next time he ventured out to play golf. He said that the ankle was quite restricting as he has quite big calf muscles and upon taking them off he had the red lines along his leg where the elastication had been digging in. I thought with a wash or two this would improve but sadly I was wrong, he now uses them for work as they are quite thick and he works on a steel furnace. However the tightness combined with the heat means his feet do sweat a lot and need washed on a very regular basis.
This is how I noticed the first irregularities with these socks, aound the elastic began to fray, and after washing regularly the inside of the socks became very bobbly and rough even though I used fabric softner. After the extensive usage that my boyfriend used them for, everynight near enough, the socks began to get holes in after about two or three weeks. Mostly in the heel and under the ball of the foot, where the foot rubs the most. A hole also began to appear in the toe of the sock from extensive rubbing against his work shoes.
Although these socks are only £3.99 I would not recommend buying them, the shop where I work sell a lot better quality for around the same price so I would be looking at other brands in the future. Surely socks are made for extensive use and are not expected to get all holey after washing. The quality of the fabric also leaves a lot to be desired as it became bobbly and very rough, which is not suitable at all. I would not recommend buying these socks and would express my opinion to buy a better branding of sock in the future for both sporting comfort and working durability.
I bought a pack of three Ping socks for my husband for when he plays golf. He likes to wear Ping whilst golfing and has many tops and always rates heir quality so I thought I would buy him these.
In the pack we got were three pairs of black socks with the logo on the ankle.
My husband was initially impressed but sadly they didn't stay very impressive. They are 80% cotton and 19% nylon and the other 1% is elastic. My husband said they were comfortable when he put them on but felt a little bit tight around his legs. After a day of golfing he said that he wasn't impressed and his feet felt very hot and sweaty.
They did not feel all that thick really so it must be to do with the make up of the material.
When I washed them they were quite coarse even after I put them in the tumble dryer too so they were not very comfortable to touch and didn't feel like the most soft socks in the world.
My husband has continued to wear them on occasions but doesn't play golf in them as he says they get his feet too hot when doing so.
Over the space of a month or so these socks have really lost their quality completely and a few have developed holes in them. I would expect better than this from a brand which is highly regarded in the golf world. Perhaps we just got a poor example and others will be better but we won't be trying out any others in the future and will stick to using others in future. I am disappointed as I think £10 for three pairs of socks should mean that you get quality.
