Compression wear seems to be one of the big things in sports at present. I own a few compression items due likely to the marketing hype and intrigue I have into anything that aids performance/ recovery
I had skins compression tights recommended to me by a fellow athlete at a race last summer. He changed into his after the race so I enquired into why? I had originally thought the performance benefit was during activity however he explained that they helped the blood flow to his legs and helped him recover quicker. Sounded good to me.
I paid £49.99 for a pair in size medium through the online retailer wiggle in black. I've seen people with them in white and i'm not really that much of a 'flash harry' although as a bloke I admit to wearing tights!
Skins claim that the compression element increases oxygen flow into active muscles- I have to admit in my sport (Cycling) the use of compression garments has not yet taken off. Skins make specific products for cycling however I know very few people who have bought their cycling clothing
In comparison with a traditional pair of running tights the fit is slightly tighter and you can feel that the muscles are in compression. I have done running and exercise classes in them and I do feel that they have a positive effect on endurance and time to exhaustion.
The main use I have for them is post exercise however and I recommend them to anyone I know as a great way of aiding recovery- my legs feel so much better the day after a race.
However it's a good job i'm single as my female friends have all said they wouldn't be too happy with their partner walking around the house in a pair of tights! Or simply wearing tights although it's simple to wear other bottoms over them for modesty- It's not like i'm wearing a pair of lace topped stockings
Just a couple of updates to add- thaks to those that provided some feedback
+I have just checked the labelling and these are recommended to be washed on a 30 degree wash only. Some delicate sports items item to be handwash only. I have coincidently washed these at 40 degrees with no apparent ill effect.
+ I have a 31 inch inside leg and a 28/30 inch waist and find these tights to be a good slightly firm fit while not restricting movement. Usually I would take a size small in most mens products however Skins have a slightly different sizing system based on weight and height. A link to find out which size is right for you is http://www.skins.net/why-skins/faqs.aspx
So far I have owned my tights over the winter period (5 months in total) and they are in very good condition. I have noticed a slight rubbing of the lycra between the legs however find this occurs with my lycra products. This may be also as I have worn jeans/ tracksuit bottoms over my Skins on a regular basis for travel. This does not affect their performance.
A great product that really helps my recovery
