Dunlop Loco Golf Balls ... some people, golf is about as exciting as attending a cement conference in Huddersfield on a rainy day. For others, it s a passion, and a chance to escape busy working life for a couple of hours. For me, golf is merely a pastime, and whilst I do enjoy a round once a week, I m not a die-hard fan, and can survive without hitting a little white ball with a big metal stick for a while. I was going to try and keep this review entertaining for the non-golfers, but that s not really going to be possible, as, at the end of the day, even a numerous amount of ball-based jokes isn t going to produce a scintillating write-up! - so let us proceed in a civilized manner... Cleveland Hibore XLS 2008 Driver ... drivers have always been under rated. Having made some classics such as the Launcher Comp, which still performs as well as many of todays top drivers. Unfortunately their original HiBore was so focussed on reducing spin, that it didn t produce enough spin to keep the ball in the air! Even with the ability for pro s to test all the shafts available, they couldn t really get one to work, and it was a flop on tour as well as at retail. The newer HiBores produce more spin, therefore resulting in a better flight. The XLS is a quality club, with a solid feel to it, and if you can get used to the badge on the crown, good looks to boot. Ping G10 Driver ... solid product from Ping. I had the 7.5 degree with a Fuji Rombax 7Z08 X flex shaft. Great launch angle and trajectory for my needs, I m a links player and prefer a low ball flight. Never actually been on a launch monitor with this combination, so can t give the exact specs. I would recommend going for one of the upgrade shaft options. Some are free, I think the Grafalloy PL Red and UST V2 High Launch are both available for no upcharge, and they are a significant improvement over the stock Ping shaft (I don t understand why they persist with making their own shafts to be honest).
