Advantages: make you look like a pro ......almost
Disadvantages: None
The Adidas Predator football boot has to be one of the best boots on the market. Infact it is as good if not better than Puma Kings. The Predator has managed to involve itself through time and just like a good games console it has improved with each release.
The boot was originally started in 1994 by ex Liverpool player Craig Johnstone. This Australian came up with the idea of putting a serious of extra chunks on to the front part of the boot. The idea was that this boot would help players to swerve the ball when passing and shooting. The boots were revolutionary and could be bought at a cost of over £100. I liked these boots although I never owned a pair I did wear them once for a game. They were comfortable with a nice wide fitting but very heavy.
In 1995 adidas began the launch of the second type of predator boot. Although there wasn't much difference between that and the previous one it did feature a fold of over tongue which was quite new at the time.
More revolutionary ideas were brought to the boot a year later. They were the first boot to use the blade system technology. So instead of having studs blades were used to provide more grip on the grass.
Gradually the boots became much lighter and subtle differences were made to the boot. The dimples on the boots in 1998 onwards were no longer so prominent and yet it was still possible to swerve the ball really well. In 2004 they brought is something called powerserve technology which they claimed would give even more dip and bend. David Beckham was doing overtime marketing these boots and it was about this time they I owned my first pair.
They have now moved the powerserve technology from the front of the boot to the inside. This gives added control and spin when passing and crossing
I have always loved this boot and because of the fact it has evolved over time then it still remains very popular. It started out being seen as a bit of a gimmick but, over 15 years on it is still going strong. This shows the quality the boot possesses.
Summary: Great boots
