Now i know many of the people who read this (if any) will probably think that i'm just another saddo who sits on the isde of a river or lake watching a bit of line in the water wating for something to happen. Well your wrong.

My first taste of the fishing game came many years ago when i was just a youngster, a trip to the docks for a bit of fishing with my Granda.

First of all we had to get the bait, and at such a young age the prospect of digging up the field out the back of his house for worms was probably more exiting than the fishing.

So off we went to the docks, first cast went in, line snapped, too much weight, oops.
Second cast went in and stayed there for a while, YIPEE success, but it was only a crab which decided to 'let go' as i pulled it out of the sea and it plunged back down into the murky water below.
Several attempts later i was into a fish, and being a weak and feeble 6 year old my granda grabbed the rod off me before i fell into the sea. Again the line snapped and the fish shot off into the distance with a hook firmly lodged into its mouth, revenge was mine.

After this rather unsuccessfull venture into the world of angling, i became disheartened and gave it up. But there was always a niggling in the back of my mind saying to get up of my backside and take it up again.

I waiting until one summer, the salmon and trout were running well in my river so i went and got my licenses and got all the old gear out of the loft and off i went.

Since then i've spent many a sunny afternoon lazing by the river, radio on and with the advancements in angling technology i don't even have to watch the line any more, my bite alarm soon wakes me up.

Admittedly many of these trips were uneventful, but thats part of the game, a bit of give and take, some of the trips were also cold and wet, again perfect conditions for slying off to the country pub.

Many people simply ge
t bored when they go fishing because nothing ever happens, but when it does, the thrill of the first run from the fish and then the fight to get it landed.

Especially a Pike, the king of the lake, when you get one of these on, boy do you know it. I once caught a two pounder in my local lake, me and a mate were fishing, we both thought it was something big, darting this way and that way, pulling on the line. And even though it was hardly worth catching the chase and fight was immense.

And that my dear friends is what anglers look for. (and some tasty fish)

Try it, Enjoy it
