Advantages: The anti's will be happy

Disadvantages: The anglers won't

The sport of angling is, I am sorry to say slowly killing its self. For some reason ponds, lakes, canals and rivers are all going to the syndicates and think it’s a good idea to charge anything up to £10 or more for a day ticket and of course the non syndicated waters are also jumping on the bandwagon thinking it’s a fabulous idea.

When you do get there it’s usually a barbless hook only policy in force WHY? Micro barbed hooks offer the same benefits as a barbless hook plus your bait stays on.

Most waters also have a no keepnet rule yet again WHY? After years of development in net technology the nets are soft, knotless and very kind to the fish. So why ban them? I agree with net dipping to ensure that disease is not passed from water to water, but banning them is just a joke.

With the price of tackle going sky high and the cost of a days fishing going through the roof there is little scope for kids to start enjoying the sport and as a result another option is closed to them. The numbers participating will start to decline. This is a real shame as in the main it’s the anglers that keep the banks of waterways clear from litter, spot and report pollution, discover when the fish are diseased. The revenue generated from the licence fee will also start to dwindle and as a result our water systems will go into decline.
