My first go at archery with a real bow was at a medieval fayre. I hit the gold and won a tankard of cider. The combination of hitting the target and the boozy element made me think I’d like to have a go at this archery thing. So I joined the local club. I enjoyed the sport, joined the club, bought equipment and eventually became a qualified instructor myself. I no longer shoot because it can be very time consuming but I am writing this based on my experience. Archery is both personal and individualistic and social. While it requires a certain amount of physical effort and stamina one’s mental attitude is far more important. Eugen Herrigel, ... Read the complete review

i feel quite strange sitting here now about to write about my greatest passion, which deffinatly sounds strange coming from a girl in her late teens. I personally have been and archer for 8 years and i love it. Its the most relaxing sport i have ever participated in and i have tried a few. Basically there are two main types of archery; Field or Target. ---Field Archery--- Im not going to pretend i know what im talking about here because ive only participated once or twice in this discipline but it involves using your bow to hunt in the wild. However you do not have to hunt live targets. In most field events you are in the woods and there will ... Read the complete review

Archery is one of those sports that everyone can try. It doesn't rely on you being super fit, a fast runner, big and muscly or any of the "sporty" stereotypes. It is simply a matter of getting yourself to a decent local club and having a go. The basic requisites for the sport are; 1) A bow 2) Some arrows 3) A target 4) A site at which to put all of these together. And all of these can be supplied by a club. Bows come in all shapes and sizes. The main concern being the "Draw Weight". This means the amount of weight (effort) that pulling back the string needs. For those without practice or ... It's easier said than done, or it is for me anyways. Now my husband and son hit the bulleyes pretty regularly. It real fun trying thou.My husband first got him a bow & arrow set and started going over to friends house shooting targets. Then my son got him one and him and my husband compete against each other. My husband built them a shooting place to shoot their bow and arrows and guns.He bought a 6X8 thick foam and mounted it on some posts. Then he bought a large target board and mounted it to the foam. Then I went and bought them one of those target deers.I believe I shot the legs off more than once, when I did even hit it. It's rather fun ... Read the complete review

Archery can be a fun sport. There are different types - field archery and target archery. There are also different types of bows, compound (which are harder to draw back but are suppose to give you greater accuracy of shot), recurve (which are like the traditional type) and crossbows, which are different altogether. For novices it is best to take a course of lessons, but you have to wear some protection as the bow strings can cause severe brusing to your arm should you be unfortunate to clip your arm with one (speaking from experience!!) You also need to get the hang of placing the arrows correctly (so they don't fall onto the ground). You also need to take care ... Read the complete review
