Advantages: feels great to pull of tricks

Disadvantages: will get hurt

Most of my review will be based on street bmx.

"Equipment"
Firstly you should have a good bmx, if your looking to buy one i would stay away from all superstores and toy stores since there not really built for real riding and usually weigh to much. Instead buy one from a local skate/bmx shop or from a bmx store online. Your bmx should really have 20" back and front wheels. This is just my personal reference but i would remove all excess weight of the bmx such as reflectors and chain guards and tacky stickers. Not only does it make your bmx lighter but it really doesn't flow well your looking to be taken serious and have reflectors on your bmx.

"Learning the basics"
Bunny-hopping is probably the most required skill/trick in bmx as it's quite easy to learn but just takes a while to perfect. What you want to do to start learning how to bunny-hop is go a slow to medium speed pull your front wheel up until it reaches the level of just below where your stomach was between your knee-caps and stomach and then try to level out (the hard part) by bringing your back wheel up when doing this don't lean forward since if you do it will push your front wheel down and mess the bunny-hop up. If your having trouble doing this, either try going up a small slope before bringing your front wheel up. The heavier your bmx is the harder it is going to be. That's why it's important to have a light frame.

"Manual"
This is very simple but also takes time to master. Just pull a wheelie and hold it for as long as you can by balancing with your body and have the back brake half gripped in-case you feel that your bmx is going to far back.

"Bar-spin"
The way i learned this was put your bmx back wheel up against a wall whilst your on it so your back wheel is on the floor against the wall but your front wheel is in the air in front of you. And just practise spinning your bars one rotation and catching them with your hands, over time your hand-coordination will gradually make catching and spinning them easier, once you've learned this try mixing it with your tricks for example bunny-hop and bar-spin whilst in the air, or bar-spin when your coming out of a manual.

You will certainly hurt yourself in bmx, but the feeling and rewards of pulling of a trick is worth it all :)

Summary: Worth the pain
