I do not often write 'general' reviews so for me this is a little different and hopefully, I will do it justice. I first began playing badminton about 10 years ago, maybe once a fortnight, with a colleague from work. She was, in retrospect, not as good as I thought she was, but was much better than I was at the time, invariably we played singles. This is important, as I will explain later as singles is a very different game from doubles, which I play now. I am not going to go into the history of badminton, nor get all technical about the rules, suffice to say, each game is up to 21 points, with the points now being won whether you have served or ... For most people Badminton is a game they play for a short while at school and then forget about, it rarely gets any television coverage and you never read about it in the newspapers. However it can be an extremely exciting sport to both watch and participate in which incorporates accuracy, power, skill and fitness. History There are two versions of who first invented the game of Badminton, some people believe it was first played by the Duke of Beaufort and his family on his estate at Badminton in Gloucestershire around 1867, but another theory is the game was originally devised by a group of British army officers stationed in India and introduced to ... I have now been playing badminton for about 25 years. It is a great game which keeps you fit. It is however quite strenuous on certain areas of the body. Many badminton players get knee injuries, sprained or twisted ankles, and tennis elbow, just to mention a few. When I was in my teens I trained and played at county level, but then at Uni I stopped playing for a while - only playing in tournaments now and then with my father, both of my sisters and brother also play. It really is a great game, I play ladies doubles and mixed and do not often play singles... this is mainly because at club nights there is not much time to play singles due to the amount of people ... I was introduced to the game by my boyfriend. He has been playing since childhood and after spending many hours watching the game I felt that I knew enough to take it up myself. Either that or a life of cold sports hall floors watching. I have now been playing for just under five years. When I first started it was much harder than it looked. My boyfriend has been my coach, although he has never been coached himself. I used to say that I only played because of him but I realise that I now too am addicted. Many people do not realise the complexity and the skill of the game. It is not simply a case of hitting a shuttlecock back and forth it involves ... Read the complete review
