I would say its more a HEALTH HAZARD!!! Filthy Dirty Disgusting place My time and my huge amounts of money in membership fees there definitely has come to an end I am glad and sad Once was could be described as upmarket and probably is to all the less fortunate people out there who don't give a damn about hygiene or work for a living ! Mr Bannatyne Do You Care NO ! You continue to rake in the profits for your poor disgusting service You are shameful ! But when your worth 400million + why would you care or be bothered. When decent hard grafting people come to there senses and Stop joining your little empire will soon crash. All those you have wronged will be laughing at your demise. Don't bite the hand that feeds you!!!
I joined Bannatynes Peterborough and noted the cancellation policy was 3 months written notice to be given at month 9 so you had to sign up for a year. I told the sales guy that I had been caugh out years ago by this and was not happy to sign. (would have gone to Esporta, they had a better policy). He said as long as I gave 1 months written notice with proof of new address that was fine.., Guess what I moved so hand delivered my letter with copy of my bank statement as proof of new address. I even explained to the girl on reception when I handed it over what it was for.
Head office are now bombarding me with vile letters/emails wanting the balance amount for the 12 months. I have been told the guy who sold it to me would not have lied to get a sale!!! Haha you just have to look at the tv and papers and internet to see how underhand these membership people are.
Well I guess they are taking me to court. First they had better find the hand delivered letter with my new address because they have been writting to my old one. If they do take me to court they have to find me first. (This of course will be on my file somewhere at there branch but by finding it they are acknowledging they received a letter - which they denied getting). Have divorced and changed my name.
My point being even if you really believe the sales team want to help and are being friendly just remember they are out to get that sale at what ever cost to you.
I will fight on because I know what I was told and these Health Clubs need tighter regulating.
Bannatynes health clubs are extremely over rated, I found them to be dirty and in need of updating. I have never met such an unhelpful, rude, unfriendly set of people in my life (including the GM). I would be extremely disappointed if they were my team. There has been a couple of occasions where reception staff have been having extremely loud extremely inappropriate, vulgar conversations behind the reception. I relish the thought of anyone paying the ridiculous prices for this gym, there are far nice health clubs out there. I think the staff need to practice what they preach! You can get so much more for your money, i have now joined another (cheaper i might add) Health club that is so much more welcoming, I cant believe the amount of money paid for such a shoddy, unsatisfactory service. It has a lot of potential if some money, time and effort was spent hiring decent staff, and updating the member areas.
i am a mother of 3 and my bf booked me a pamper day at leicesters bannatynes health spar for mothers day. i went with my mother in law today and we have come out more stressed to when we went in. the staff was absolutley appaling to us we did not feel welcome they told us we were not booked in, we had to tell staff three times the coffee machine was out of coffee. the staff told us they were fully booked last ngt then this morning they told us they had spaces they changed our massage sessions four times. it was supposed to b a big break for me away from my kids as ive not had one for five years and from this experience i will neva be goin to a health spar again i dnt feel healthy i dont feel relaxed and ive smoked double the cigerettes i normally do. If the staff had bin more helpfull and had less attitude maybe it wouldnt of bin so bad i just wanted to get out of there my massage was at 11 and my mother in laws was at 2:45 i was ready to go home at 1. i do not reccommed this so called day spa in leicester to anyone such a waste of money!!!!!!!!!
I used to be a member of this Gym in the Whitworth, Manchester. They have good set up of equipments at a fair cleanness, it's nt that much crowded at any time you can get what you want. But, I left this Gym with most disappointment. One thing is they are greedily want to sign you up, making you to give little attention to their t&c. but, finally you will find yourself almost robbed. The guy receptionist, God so so arrogant in case of any concern that you want to talk. Conclusion: They look the smartest ever at your time of sign up, so be warned.....
Joined Bannatynes Folkestone in early 2010 as close to work and really the only large gym with pool in Folkestone. Firstly, the jacuzzi constantly boils over with foam, which is basically all the body fats in the water as its rarely looked after properly, and the pool area and sauna are disgusting and poorly maintained, so stopped using it! The Gym, despite a decent range of machines, is filthy, hot (because the idiots never bother to service the air recirc systems). I complained that the air con was clearly not being maintained (given the buckets catching water drips on occasion, and the virtual grey layer of carpet (dirt) over the blocked inlets). Machines break regularly, but when you point it out and complain, they moan that if they're not told they can't be mind readers etc. Why not check the bloody machines regularly, rather than expect everyone to report everything to the badly manned reception!
I could go on, but I regularly use the gym since I'm being fleeced so much for the privilege. Have now thankfully cancelled only to be caught out on the 3 month cancellation. Apparently i am stupid cos i missed this little nugget on reading the contract, despite seemingly to spend most of my job reading contracts, so can only imagine it wasn't something i was too aware of at the sales pitch. Had friends that have serious fall outs with the management who can at times verge on offensive, to the point of writing letters to good old Duncan (as he points out in his clubs!), and getting nothing but mildly threatening, and customer service absent letters back, or just plain ignored. Horrible business, and just rely on being significant players in the market to close down local clubs and dominate the market.
Myself and partner joined back in October and we paid for November and got December free - during November my partner had an accident and was in hospital for 3 weeks... I sent a letter to the gym on his behalf explaining what had happened and told the we need to cancel but they wouldn't let us.4 months later we are still going through this with them - they are saying a sick note and letter from the hopsital is not enough evidence to cancel the membership under health reasons! they are requesting a full payment of £356 for us both!Never ever join a Bannatyne gym!
If you want to get treated like rubbish then join this gym, they send out distressing letters for changing bank details and then laugh at you down the phone what a complete joke.
A terrible gym rude to customers, awful roll over contracts designed to trick you into paying more money when your membership runs out. There are much nicer gyms out there; you will definitely be disappointed if you join a Duncan Bannatyne gym. I hear Duncan also has some hotels I will stay well away from these also. The Scottish management no nothing about customer service
They have some crazy company policies, which just haven't been thought through properly.
1. Roll over contract, which means they keep taking money from your account even when your contract has run out, unless you give notice in writing to the main office? Thanks Duncan!
2. If you forget your membership card three times they will charge you £10....WHAT!
"The sales person who takes you're hard earn money gives none of the above information"
I jointed Rotherham gym, which is positioned just off the M18 nr Maltby, opposite Morrisons in October 2008. After just a few weeks I got the impression the management (mainly Scottish) and very poor in the customer service area, even being rude and aggressive to members. I spoke to many members whilst sat in the sauna that shared the same opinion and experience, I heard some horror stories of how they had been treated and spoken to. It seems all you need on your CV is "Nationality Scottish", no staff training required if you fill this criteria.
I let my membership run out and had no intension of rejoining, however I received a phone call from the sales staff with a membership offer. They said they could offer me the same deal as I received on my first subscription in 2008, which wasn't a bad deal actually, so I said I would drop in and chat. When I arrived I was informed that the sales person had spoken to a the area sales manager and now could not offer me the deal offered earlier that day, but they could offer me another great deal which was there current offer at £518 for the year, which was a £43 increase..... WHAT! Well you can imagine my response; I left and then wrote this review.
Richard Branson ... please open a GYM to sort this shower of idiots out!
This gym is a complete joke 2 years ago i joined i cancelled a week or 2 later went in 2 the gym and explained i was"n well enough 2 use the gym , they said because i had the 1 month free i was able to i tried 2 cancel with my bank but they could"n find it on the screen , regardless 2 that i was overdrawn because it wasn't cancelled with the gym which i was aware the guy had cancels it , yr s down the line i get a letter saying that i was being took 2 court i rang the number up on the letter 2 be told mail had been sent 2 me and returned to them not at this address regardless of me explaining the awkward situation with my mail ..i don't believe the guy for 1 minute as no way could 3 letters be returned jokers i told him i had been really ill with my nerves he told me 2 fill the form in and send back now iv reiceved more court letters the guy tried 2 tell me the gym hasn't no cooling of period i say everything u sign should have a cancellation time out and specially when your 1 month is free i would of thought any time-in does come in 2 effect till your money date is set up ..all i can say no wonder Duncan banatymes can be a millionaire im certainly aint paying no 1 over £300 for something i haunt used , there quick enough 2 throw offers at u & quick enough 2 take u 2 court but not quick enough 2 accept there wrong ..
I joined the Milton Keynes banntynes and wished for months I hadnt, as many others do. Unclean, unhelpful staff (rude at times!) and busy busy busy all the time. What a waste on money!Final straw - pee smelling toilets.Franly i get better at my rugby club!
Im a happy lady on the whole but the milton keynes team disapointed me at bannatynes.Quite rude when i told them about the smelly loos and unhelpful when i mentioned someone was being ill inthe pool.Im much happier at esporta and very glad i only paid for a months membership with bannatynes!
DONT give Bannatynes your 'phone number! I joined their Milton keynes branch and began to bombarded by texts offering 'one off' offers, ' this is the final offer', 'last time' discounts etc. To recieve three or four texts a day is wrong. When they say - this offer is a one and only opportunity then the next day / week you get the same text five times it goes beyond a joke. They claimed it was their marketing company and didnt seem to care. Id add the staff in general were quite arrogant, unhelpful, and unpopular with the clientelle. Shame really
I went to look at Bannatynes in Bristol after I moved because it was close to my new home. I was shown around by a guy who was nice enough, but clearly very keen to get his sales tally up. The gym seemed ok, but when it came to talking price and he mentioned the 12 month minimum contract I told him immediately that I'll have to go elsewhere because my work contract ends in 6 months so I'll be leaving Bristol. He tried the "we have gyms all over the country" line, but I told him I would in fact be going abroad - most likely to Australia. Not wanting to lose the sale, he assured me that "the company" would be reasonable under such extreme circumstances. Completely false, of course. My own fault for letting a pushy salesman pull the wool over. Still - the 12 month minimum is arbitrary, pointless, and clearly designed to cash in on anyone who doesn't continue to go, whether by choice or not. Like the previous reviewer, they offered me a "goodwill" deal - 20% off the 300-odd pounds remaining on my contract. I suggested that I would consider a 3 month penalty (165 pounds) more reasonable, given the slick salesman pitch I was fed before joining. Their response was to restate their "goodwill" offer, bang on about the contract, and conspicuously not mention the conduct of their salesman.
As for the gym - it was nice enough. A few complaints: 1. number of showers *totally* inadequate for peak-time demand, 2. (as others have said), showers not too clean - first time I have bought rubber shoes to wear in a gym shower, 3. change-rooms also ridiculously crowded, and 4. the "booking required" for classes seems like a good idea (it was one of the big selling points for me actually), but is apparently ignored - I went to a yoga class that was so full, I couldn't do most of the lying-down stretches because I didn't particularly fancy putting my hands/feet on the guy next to me!
