My review is purely on the Two Bannatynes Gyms in Manchester(Whitworth street and Quay street) I joined Bannatynes(Whitworth st) on the recommendation of a my flatmate when moving to Manchester nearly 5 years ago and the fact that it was a little over 10minutes walk from my abode at the time. In terms of the setup they have ... Read the complete review

Well, I've read many reviews for different Bannatynes clubs and I have to say most of them are not complimentary, so in that mine might make a nice change! Bannatynes Info: Banntynes are a chain of health clubs( gyms to you and I) owned by Dragon's Den entrepenuer Duncan Bannatyne. The first club appeared 11 years ago, but now they ... I enjoy being physically fit and active and they do say "A healthy body equals a healthy mind". A very true saying in my opinion. I get a real buzz and feel on a high when I'm exercising, scientifically this probably relates to the release of adrenalin. I also find exercise works for combating stress and I use it as a means to unwind ... Read the complete review

I have been a member for 5 years and despite many ups and downs I have been happy until Bannatyne took over. There is hardly ever an instructor in the gym they seem to spend all their time on reception chating. Their customer service is terrible, they never return a call, reply to a fax or letter. The MD takes 4-6 weeks to look at a letter sent to ... Read the complete review

I got taken to the cleaners by Bannatyne's. Rang to cancel my membership in the February when it would be a year old and they said fine, sorry to see you go. No mention of sending it in writing or 3 month quit period REGARDLESS of where you where in your yearly membership. If it was 2 months in fine but not when I had paid the same as someone ... I have cancelled my membership with Bannatynes due to ill health, after 2 letters being sent explaining I need to stop my membership because I have been diagnosed with M.S & epilepsy it is no longer safe for me to go, this was in February 2009 & a telephone call in February to confirm they had received the letter which they confirmed they had the letter I am still getting demand letters for the £32 a month. Yet another telephone call today (15/04/09) there is no trace of the call or letter from February and no one on site who can deal with it.. I really need this stress!! Be careful if your thinking about joining I'm on a 1 month cancellation some are 3 month BE AWARE!!

My first visit to a Bannatyne Health Club Milton Keynes and had we not already booked a Spa Day we would not have made it past the entrance, which looked like a very tatty run down office block. The reception area was ok - staff were friendly. Lunch was limited. Other users of the health club were very friendly and helpful. The Spa consists of a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and two steam rooms which we used. Also included in the day were ALL of the exercise classes and full access to the gym. Generallly it was ok but not outstanding. At the two for one offer price it was ok but I would not return paying full price.

In the financial situation that we're in at the moment, I can't see people rushing to join a gym to shell out the £50 a month or £500 a year that Bannatyne's are asking for. That's without towels by the way, they're another £100 a year or so. That said, I am already a member of my local Bannatynes in Barnsley and I have no complaints. In fact ... Read the complete review

I think that potential customers for Bannatynes need to be aware of the contract that they will sign to become a member, I have just spoken with a member of staff at the head office in County Durham who has advised me that mine and my husbands contract does state that we have to give 3 months notice to cancel our membership, although when we ... Be very careful, don't get caught out by smiles and small print. When we joined the staff said canceling membership would be no problem, however, when we did try to cancel membership the reaction was not so laid back or friendly, we were told they would hold us to a full twelve month contract, this totally contradicted what we had been told when signing up.

My wife and I have been members for 6 years at Milton Keynes and have seen a deterioration over this period. The standard of hygiene leaves a lot to be desired in the showers and changing rooms most of which has occurred since Bannatyne took over. We decided not to renew our membership and go elsewhere and sent a letter to this effect. Despite this we have received phone calls/letters notifiying that our memberships are due for renewal. Their Admin staff are inefficient and their general apathy to our insistance that we have left, seems to reflect a total lack of capable management. We would dissuade people considering joining, to think very carefully about commiting to a badly run operation with little regard to hygiene and customer service

As my hometown's Bannatyne hasn't featured yet, I'd like to share my experiences, which are quite different to some of the others mentioned here. I've been a member of Bannatyne's in Manchester since early March now, when - after about a year of unhealthy eating and minimum activity - I finally decided to do something about my weight ... I can't believe how different Bannatyne's clubs are across the UK from reading these previous reviews! However I will write about my personal experiences with this health club. I go to the one in Nottinghamshire and my parents and many friends are also members too. I think it is absolutely brilliant- we have a well-equipped gym with ... Read the complete review

Having just recieved the most appalling customer service of any organisation in my life - please read this before you even think of joining Bannatyne's. I joined Bannatyne's health club "Milton Keynes" and used it once the following week. The place is 10-15 years old and in need of full refurbishment. The air conditioning did not work. Fire exit doors were opened to let the smell out. The swimming pool has no light you can not see where you are swimming to. I hit my head to the ... Read the complete review

Worst gym I've ever been to. No customer service whatsoever. I can't even beginn to describe how disappointed I am. I am normally a quite relaxed and calm person but the lack of customer service and the level of disintrest that Bannatyne's staff display seriously raises my blood pressure just thinking about it. I don't know what people are normally used to if they claimed to be happy with this gym. Glasgow Bannatyne gym. Promised upgrade of a previous Living Well gym in Glasgow has not happened. Some staff think a 'deep clean' of the pool area is a bonus instead of thinking that customers should expect that area to be pristine anyway!!! Gym equipment not bad, but overall facilities nowhere near as good as some other Bannatyne gyms and ... Read the complete review
