Advantages: fast, skillfull, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: poor coverage at the moment
I started taking an interest in in British Basketball at the beginning of last season and immediately got hooked. Although the BBl (British Basketball League) is still very much in its infency mainly relying on former NBA stars. Despite this the speed and skill is very good. The leagues in England are very complicated. They are split into two sections a Northern League and a Southern League. From each league the top teams go into playoffs which in the end decide the English champion. Television coverage at the moment is very poor with about 1 game week being shown on Sky Sports and only the most important games being shown on BBC two. This might actually be a blessing in disguise as it means if you wish to follow a team that you have to actually go to the games. Games are usually on a Sunday at about 5:00pm. The games are split into four quarters each quarter lasting 15 minutes. Although actual playing time is only 60 minutes a game can last up to 2.5 hours because of all the stops and starts. The biggest team in the BBL at the moment are Chester Jets (the team that I follow), London Towers (star of the Haribo adverts), Birmingham Bullets and Sheffiel Sharks. I am going to end this opinion by saying just try watching a Basketball game on TV or at one of the arenas and I can almost gurantee you will fall in love with the game.
