Black Knight

Nano-Fire Badminton Racquet

I bought this racquet recently as my old, Carlton racquet really has seen better days. It was heavy, the tension was pretty much gone, and as I am now playing twice a week at a local club I thought I would treat myself.

Black Knight a partner or subsidiary of Ashaway UK is an established racket manufacturer and this racquet normally costs £60, luckily our club is doing a deal and I got it for £10 cheaper.

Black Knight also sponsor players such as Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson, though, clearly their racquets are a little better than this one!

~~~The Racquet~~~
Weight:
It is light, only 80 grams, which is less than three ounces, or less than half the weight of my old racquet.
In fact the only lighter ones I have seen are professional ones at 75gms (and at least £20 more).
The weight is important as to run around with the racquet, for a couple of hours does take it out of you. 'Tennis elbow' is a real pain in the, ahem, elbow and the less weight, the less likely to suffer.
Materials:
It is a carbon fibre racquet made with 'Beryllium composites'.....now I have looked this up on the internet, it is all quite complicated, but, 'Light and strong' is clever enough for me.
Strings:
Strings are between 18-24lb of pressure which is slightly lower than professional standards, but with a high 'rigidity' this means that it is actually very responsive.
~~~What Else~~~

Well apparently the racquet features 'EOS frame technology', which, I gather is a way of making the frame strong around four symmetrical sections to aid stability and precision. When I tried to find out what EOS stood for, and I really did try....I couldn't.

Shallow stuff now.....it is a bloomin' good looking thing, all shiny red with nice sliver flashes around the frame, and even the racquet case is nice, light and classy.

~~~~How does it play?~~~~
I absolutely love it; it is so light it is almost like not having a racquet at all in the hand. The grip takes a little getting used to as it is that rubber composite that feels sticky but isn't. The power is superb; it takes very little effort to send the shuttlecock flying. Yet when a gentle shot is required it does this with ease too.
I love the fact that it feels so sturdy even though it is flexible and light, it feels well made, and it makes a lovely 'twang' when being used. I'm happy with this racquet and have now bought my son one too for a crimbo pressie. Have a look on their website:
My, you are a busy man Mr Hanton! Between playing Badminton, playing your saxophone, listening to jazz and reading and rating here on Dooyoo I'm beginning to wonder how you get any 'real' work done!
PS - I've given you a well deserved nomination too but don't let anyone else know as I hear some people don't like us to publicly announce nominations!
