I have been climbing for more than 16 years now. Climbing actually encompasses a fairly broad range of activities, so I thought I’d start by explaining where I fit in. I am not one of these mad fools who think that tramping all day up a mountain in miserable cold wet conditions is fun. I enjoy technical rock climbing, on sea cliffs or inland crags, preferably on a hot sunny day and preferably with a very short walk from the car park ;-) You can also climb on indoor, man-made walls, and this is where most people now start. One of the bulkiest bits of kit you have to haul around with you on every trip to the hills is a towel, and as every good hiker knows, its an invaluable item. The new range or Trek/Travel/Pack towels are a viable alternative to the usual variety. Being made of synthetic materials, the are very light, pack small, absorb many times their own weight in water, and dry much quicker than normal - ermm - towelling. They also can have around 90% of the water content wrung out of them by hand, so you can share them with a friend after a shower? I didn't think that these really come under training shoes so i thought i'd write about them here ! I love hiking and mountaineering . I needed a new pair of boots and was well chuffed when my dad took me to Field And Trek to buy a new pair . I ended up with a pair of Meindl Gortex boots , which were top range and had a price label to prove it . Got them home and broke them in , i'd walked miles in them and my feet were so unconfortable in them , i'd been breaking them in for weeks !!!
