Advantages: Good exercise
Disadvantages: Sore saddle bum
As a child I loved to go out on my bike and then I sort of stopped as I got older and had access to a car, also living for a while in a city was not compatible with cycle riding as the traffic was just too scary to take the risk of getting on a bike.
However in the last couple of years I have rediscovered the joys of a nice cycle ride in the company of my boyfriend, sure he has to do the macho thing and race ahead whenever we get to any sort of incline, and yes hills are an absolute nightmare but in rural Northamptonshire there are plenty of flat bits to enjoy and it is a great way to get out and see the countryside and enjoy the sights.
Cycling is also great exercise and providing you wear the proper protective gear like bright reflective clothing and a helmet as well as doing regular maintenance on your bike then you have at least taken every precaution possible.
Cycling is also a pretty cheap hobby once you have paid the initial outlay for the bike, I have a nice ten gear hybrid bike for just over a £100, it is well made and also not too heavy and will handle roads and some dirt tracks without having too much tread when on the flat road.
I love to go out for a ride and there are plenty of cycle routes to take advantage of.
Summary: Good fun
