Advantages: First class facilities

Disadvantages: Not cheap

I joined this flagship gym on Cromwell Road in London last September shortly after it opened. It is by far the best gym I have seen in London, spread over a huge amount of space on the bottom 5 floors of the Point West Building it has fantastic facilities. The "wet area" comprises a good sized swimming pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. There is a studio for the wide range of free (and pay) classes, two large gyms, a bar/retaurant area and a beauty studio. Unfortunately I left this area so I had to end my membership! Given its area and standard the gym is not cheap and I was paying around £75 per month which is only worthwhile if you use it regularily, there is also a fairly hefty membership charge. I looked at other gyms in the area Holmes Place, Sprint and some of the ones belonging to hotels and this one beat them all hands down. The staff there were always very helful and are among the best qualified in London. A big benefit is that as this is the flagship gym membership entitles you to use any of the other david lloyd clubs around Britain.

Now they charge £86 a month!!!
Their facilities are not like before. Sauna and steam room doesn't work most of the time!
If you decide to do any thing about your membership it takes a long time to be sorted out. You can never find any body at membership department and have to leave lots of messages at reception and nobody gets back to you!
They have recently painted the walls to another colour and that's the only improvement there!
So many members are leaving the club now!

Agreed! (I've just signed up as a member). It may be a little pricy (£76 a month) but definitley worth every penny ... and I'm not all that rich! If you're going 3 or 4 times a week it works out as only a few pounds per visit, and it is by far the best gym that I've found in London. Holmes place isn't bad but it's not as good, it's overpriced and it's too, well, sterile I suppose - you haven't got the nice atmosphere that you find at the David Lloyd - when I went to H.P. I was greeted by an extremely pushy saleswoman who might as well have grabbed my hand and forced me to sign on the dotted line....
David Lloyd also offers good personal trainers - I recommend Scott Piri (although I haven't tried any others). He takes a very scientific approach and specialises in injuries and rehabilitation - this is very useful if you have a back problem like me for example, as you can be confident he won't make your problem any worse, which is only too easy to do if you don't train in the correct way.
So go on, treat yourself, spend a few extra squids - you'll be glad you did!
