Advantages: Cheap and functional

Disadvantages: Battery isn't user replaceable

So far I've done 160 dives or so using a Suunto Favor. It’s a nice neat size and I have no problem reading the numerals on the LCD screen.

When I bought it I thought it would last me a long time as it is a full decompression computer, but having done Nitrox training in the interim it is now unsuitable for some of the dives I’m doing. It does, however, operate in "Gauge" mode, unlike the popular Aladin range. This means it still functions as a timer/depth gauge if you bend it, as can happen if diving to computer generated tables and gases other than air.

It only cost 140 ukp though, a good price considering its functionality, and recently I've seen Robin Hood Watersports (www.roho.co.uk) offering them for 99 ukp, a bargain in my opinion.

One gripe is that I’m on my third battery, though this is possibly my own fault as I sometimes forget to remove the face guard . This leaves the face wet and means the computer stays switched on draining the battery. It also doesn't have a backlight - a potential hazard if you only carry one torch when night diving, although the backdrop is luminous. A good first computer.
