Advantages: Swings like Beckham free-kick.
Disadvantages: My local TY McGurk has sold out.
During the 2000 summer I was lucky enough to happen upon a Duncan Fearnley 5 1/2 oz Club Standard Cricket ball. What a wonderful find! I was a veteran of the Gunn and Moore version and had even tried Slazenger, Kookaburra and the very reputable Readers cricket balls, but never had I bowled one as well functioning as this. It felt small in the hand and worked for all my variations. As a medium-fast opening bowler without much pace to speak of, it was important that I got the most out of this ball. The ball did half the work for me. It swung like a demon, seamed like a rugby ball and no batsman could counter it in the nets. The bounce was high and made me feel like Curtley Ambrose as I dealt a friend of mine painful blows (to my delight) to the finger and chest in consecutive balls followed by a ball to find the gap in the solidest of defenses and bowl him. It continued to serve me well for many a long net session before much of the shine was gstubbornly worn away. This really is top value for money. Obviously this is no substitute for line, length and discipline and it will not work if you haven't the skill to know how to utilise it, but I would reccomend it to any pace bowler attempting to find the right ball to accentuate his own skills. It will make your craft far more pleasurable to practice.

- 08/11/00 We have a bit of a problem at our club with cricket balls (Gunn and Moore)- the opposition keep despatching them into an assortment of streams, neighboring fields and postcodes. One was also sent across a major trunk road. |
