The mouth opening is 5cm in diameter. it has a strong plastic twist lid that is attached with a collar around the neck the opening is good for drinking from its like the top of a mug. The grooves from the twist on the neck do not impede drinking. The thing that would improve the opening is a spout which could be incorporated into the lid somehow. I have just got back from a camping holiday in France. One of the essentials I take with me is this wide mouthed water bottle. Mine is several years old now and has seen many European campsites. Not only do I use it when camping but also when ever I need to take water out with me to drink. Filled with council pop (tap water) it is cheaper than bottled water.
