Advantages: Meet new people, improve fittness, very cheap, extremley fun a must do for fans of Zorro!

Disadvantages: hard to think of any but you find it hard to accept the end of each lesson cuz you wanna carry on and on and on and on etc etc etc

When you here the word fencing what comes to mind? Snobs?, the three musketeers? pansy french blokes in skin tight trousers? well if it does you need a new mind.
Modern fencing is an exhilerating, fast paced, strategic, and ultimatly fun sport that can be done by men women or children of almost any age! Another idea that comes to mind when someone like you thinks of fencing might be "ooh I don't know sound expensive", sound familiar?
Well expensive it isn't. I too was foolish enough to make that assumption but Chester Fencing Club prooved me wrong!
One day when I was at Martial Art classes (Ninpo to be prosice) and our teacher told us all about this unknown world of fencing and suggested we give it a shot! Me fence I thought? what will they think of next?
anyway, Me and my mate did turn up on the door step and were immediatly welcomed by a friendly social atmosphere, not to mention bags of dangerous looking equiptment that simply cryied out for me to hold and stab things with. ayway, we were all kitted up with kit provided by the club and was then taken to one side and shown some basic fencing moves before rejoining the rest of the class in a game of "fencing simon says". Ok so it sounds easy and a bit childish, but after around 2 minutes I found my self hanging my head in shame as I quite foolishly stepped forward when Simon didn't say. Silly me.
But to my suprise, after the game, I was told that we could "free fence".
"What!?" I thought "your going to let me loose with this nifty sword and attack the other club members with it!?" "we sure are" they replied!?

So the moral of the story is that after 1 hour I found myself stabbing innocent people and slashing a Z (for Zorro) sign into their chests.

Did I go back for more I hear you cry? Why yes, yes I did!

Now I am over the hype of fencing I am looking at the sport from a more serious point of v
iew and am thinking of buying myself a foil (thats a sword to newbies) and a glove (thats a hand garment to people who live in caves) and have the word MACKIN (my name) put on them in elegant curvy letters. Also I recently found out that tournaments go on in my old school!? They managed to hide that well as I had been there for 5 years and I never knew about it so imag where fencing might be hiding in your area?

So for a small price of £2:00 for 2 hours I get to take part in a sport I have grown to love. Also, I am by no means very athletic but I manage fine, so don't make the mistake of letting your physique put you off this opportunity of a life time that is Fencing.

You are completely right about what some people will think about fencing - I am a prime culprit.

Great op - you have changed my mind

Nice one.
