Not the best in it's field (Fitness First (Edinburgh))

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful

Disadvantages: Cramped and no pool!

I have been a member of Fitness First in Edinburgh for over two years and joined before private health clubs hit the city big time.

Good range of quality machines (both weights and cardio), excellent free weights area, but the Edinburgh branch is severely restricted for space and therefore limited to the range of activities they can offer members. No swimming pool, no sauna, no steam room and pretty cramped conditions elsewhere.

I've looked around other private gyms in the city and they have a lot more to offer, but you do have to pay a more. £39 a month at Fitnes First compared to £45 ish at other places.

Staff are OK, but suffer from a high turnover due to other gym poaching staff for more glamorous jobs in better clubs!

If you just want a gym, then it's a good place to work out but if you want the whole health club 'experience' then I'd look elsewhere!!
