Advantages: Nice gym, lovely atmosther

Disadvantages: expensive setup charge

Fitness First in Telford recently started advertising for new members. The thing that got me interested was that they kept claiming that even people who were un-employed could afford there rates. I am unable to work due to a disability but was interested in joining to try to strenthen my arms to help me move my wheelchair. They made it sound affordable. I went in and asked about prices and was made to fill in a form, speak to an advisor and have a grand tour before they even started to give me prices. it turned out they wanted £100 joining fee, a £15 administration fee and the minimum monthly fee would be £21 I told them that i would want to visit them in the evenings when my partner would be there to support me if i did to much and couldn't propell my wheelchair i was told that it would cost us both £31 a month. So for the first month it would cost us £292 pounds. I get benefit and my partner works but even still this is rather a steep amount of money to pay out. I asked them if they had special rates for the unemployed as they said it would be affordable for the unemployed, they responded with "We think our rates are affordable for everyone and the unemployed should easily be able to afford this. I am really upset that even now they still claim to be affordable for everyone when clearly they are not.

This is an example of far too many gyms and health clubs nowadays. Apparently (according to the media) helth club membership is higher than ever but so are the costs. I'm not exactly poor but is it a wonder that so many people cannot afford to go to the gym!?!? This is made worse by the fact that the media claim were (as a country) are fatter than ever. But to get trimmer and stay in shape (or simply strengthen part of your body as you wish to) you have to pay through the nose! My advice is buy some weights for yourself and set them up in a garage/spare room. Not ideal but it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.
