I suggested she should put her prices down to around GBP10.00 and advertise in the local newspaper to bring back the custom, have the boats all back out and the banks full again as opposed to charging GBP20.00 and only a handful of people showing up. She agreed bu...more

Crowned Review Fly fishing – it’s for everyman! (1801 words)
by - written on 14/08/02 (Very useful, 365 readings)
Rating:

Fresh water fly fishing is a popular and successful method for catching trout, sea-trout and salmon; it can also be used effectively to catch grayling, chub and dace. For some fish, particularly brown and rainbow trout, there is no better method. Trout feed almost exclusively on aquatic insect life for much of the year and that is what most artificial flies represent. In any case, other methods of fishing for trout, such as spinning or using worms and other natural bait, are often banned. Fly fishing is practiced with a very supple rod of about 9 feet in length, originally made from built-up sections of split cane but made, nowadays, from fiberglass or ...  Read the complete review

----<Fishing>---- I gave up fishing for the UK's next best hobby, golf. I was a keen fisherman from a very young age, I taught my partner the skills of fly fishing and from then on, we fished almost everyday of the week, I had made a huge mistake showing her the tricks and tips of the trade, as now, she is a better fisherman than me (I would say fisher-person, but it sounds corny, sorry ladies). One of the reasons I stopped fishing was the price of fishing freshwater reservoirs was getting a bit pricey, infact it is climbing all the time, Morton fishery in Mid-Calder, West Lothian, is the closest and in my eyes next best fishery too Beecraigs, ...  Read the complete review

My favourite phrase at work at the moment is '' i've got one nerve left and your getting on it''. This is a sure sign to me that its time to put on me wellies and head off for a couple of hours, into the dark misty morning with my fly fishing kit. Fly fishing is the subtle art of presenting flies or lures, man made copies of the actual insects, to the waiting and hungry trout. No mean feat given that the trout is very suspicious in nature, and wise to the ways of many a fisherman trying their luck. Much of the effort expended takes place prior to the arrival of the fly on the waters surface...to an onlooker it appears that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fly fishing or sea fishing: i'm not sure (364 words)

I first started fishing at the age of 10 when i went out off the coast of wexford with my dad and caught 42 mackeral in the space of a day. This was the first type of fishing that i learn't. It was just using handlines and therfore did not take much skill. I enjoyed this a lot then but now adays it is not so appealing as it can get quite boring and does not involve any skill unlike fly fishing. So i would advise this method of fishing for men planning on trying to get their children into fishing as it gives them the thrill and satisfaction of catching lots of fish. Then i started using a rod and spinning reel, which was much less exciting but required more skill ...  Read the complete review
