      Advantages

      Disadvantages

An excellent idea for anyone young or old.

      Flick stick.

I recently sustained a back injury which meant that I was unable to stand for longer than 15 minutes without ending up in excruciating pain. I needed something to be able to sit on irrespective or where I was. I didn't care what I looked like as long as I could sit and ease the pain. The flip stick is a fantastic invention it is a cross between a walking stick and a resting seat. It is useful for people who are unable to stand for long periods in queues or those needing to sit when out walking. The first time I saw one of these was during a trip to Eygpt and a young couple had one of these each which they used while we were standing around for long periods and I remembered this and thought I would look into them and purchase one.

So what is the Flip Stick?

The flip stick is a dual purpose walking stick cum seat and folds away into a small black bag when it is not being used. It is extremely light making it easy to carry around with you weighing in at only 650gs which is just over a pound.

The overall height of the stick is 89cm and 76cm when used as a seat.
The seat part also acts as a handle for use as a walking stick. At the back of the stick there is a little button which when depressed flips the seat part down so you have essentially a seat on a stick. The seat part is triangular in shape and made out of moulded plastic.

The actual stick is made of aluminium and is very strong indeed and can take the weight of someone up to 130KG which is 20 stone can you believe. I was quite shocked about this that it could hold that much weight as aluminium is so light.

There are three combinations of the stick available to buy in either green or black.

      1. Fixed height that does not fold.
      2. Adjustable height none folding.
      3. A folding stick that folds up and stores into a neat small bag measuring only 24cm x 28cm x 5 cm.

The stick has a moulded rubber end which makes it suitable to use both outside and inside.

I ordered mine from Emily Hannah Ltd and it was delivered within 24 hours. I was really impressed with the person I spoke to on the phone who offered me the 5% discount as I would have gone back on line to order it. You can order it on line from them and receive an extra 5% discount if you sign up to their mailing list. The price for one stick is £32. They also had them on offer two for £55. So with the 5% discount I got my one for £33.05 including postage and packing and it was delivered the next day by recorded delivery.

      Ease of use.

Taking the stick out of the bag the stick comes in four parts which more or less puts itself together due to an elasticated inner cord. You just have to make sure that the parts are all securely together so that it does not fall apart should you sit on it. It is very easy indeed needing hardly any effort.

I put the stick to use immediately and was able to sit quite comfortably in the kitchen while I cut up tons of plums to make jam. It was great to be able to sit in front of the sink doing this and then sit preparing dinner and cooking it on the stove and making the jam and baking the bread in the bread maker all at the same time without ending up with chronic back pain it was brilliant. At the moment I have terrible lower back pain which means after only fifteen minutes of standing I am wracked with excruciating pain and in absolute agony. This helped me immensely as effectively I can only sit and lie down without being in pain. Hopefully this is not going to last too long but in the mean time I needed something to carry on with daily living and it has certainly done the trick.

I would not use the stick at the moment as a walking stick but if I go out in the future and it involves a lot of standing then I would definitely use the seat part of the stick.

      Who would find this useful?

This is extremely useful for people who suffer from mobility problems or are unable to stand for long periods. The elderly especially or not so old when touring historical houses or art galleries, parks, fairs, shopping as you can whip out the stick press the button and hey presto the seat flips down and you have an instant ready made seat. It is so light that even if you were not using it, it could fit into a mini rucksack or a hand bag or could be carried over your shoulder in the carry bag it comes with.

If I could award it 10 stars I would do so I will have to settle for five.

You can buy it from the following web site:-

      http://www.walkingsticksonline.co.uk

Sorry the full link does not work because it is too long for dooyoo but once you get on the site just type in the word flip stick and it will take you to the page.

Bearing in mind Christmas is just around the corner and knowing how difficult it is to buy gifts for parent's, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters it might come in handy to think about one of these very useful flipsticks.
