These little gems are brilliant for walking in muddy areas. They are by no means glamourous and are not the thing to be seen in if you are fashion concious. Gaitors are water proof bits of material wich wrap around your lower leg with a little strap which goes underneath your foot to keep it all in place. These keep your lowe leg free from mud and water perfectly and mean you can have the comfort of your walking boot with the practicality of a wellington boot. Once again it is very important to buy well. Cheap is not alway best although you can get some good cheap ones so dont rule them out. It is important to try them on first. As ... I had never worn gaiters for walking or hiking before I climbing kilimanjaro last year, I had known what they were for and had seen others wearing them but I always thought that they looked over the top. But this in retrospect was a bit silly. One thing you need to know is when looking for a gaiter is 'what do I want to do with my gaiters ?' because this one answer will dictate what gaiter you pick out of the myriad of choice out there. Its best to read this site amongst others as outdoor magazine rarely cover equipment and if they do it serves the manufacturers to cover the bigger, far more expensive items like boots and jackets.Gaiter come in all ... It has taken me until this later time in my life to recognise the benefit of wearing gaiters. I am starting to take much more exercise out and about - both as a result of a little excess weight which I need to shift, plus the price of petrol. A couple of times a week I walk into town, a journey of about 3 miles which would otherwise cost me maybe as much as 2 pounds if I were to go in the car. It feels good and it does you good. The most direct route takes me along the footpath through farmers' fields and along the river bank. Some sections of the path are in poor order, with little evidence of effective maintenance and the first time I made the ... Read the complete review

Mention the word 'Gaiters' and many people will probably conjure up images of some reptilian type creature with big jaws and daggers for teeth lazing around in the Everglades waiting to creep up and grab its next meal that strays too close to the water's edge. But there is another version of Gaiters that are far less dangerous, and are in fact very beneficial for you when used correctly. These Gaiters are actually for you lower legs and will protect you from the elements when you are out walking in fields and across the hills - but they probably won't provide protection from the first sort of Gaiters!!! For anyone who does go out walking in the rough, you'll ... Read the complete review

You may have read a past review of mine about walking boots and how they are an essential part of walking - especially in rough terrain. It is surprising how many walkers are not aware of gaiters and have often never even seen them as useful. a good pair of walking boots are essential for walking in all weather conditions, but gaiters are a real help when walking in wet conditions. The gaiter is basically a waterproof sleeve that protects the top of your boots and lower leg from becoming wet. You could say that it effectively turns your walking boots into wellingtons. Whatever type of walking boots you have, the gaiters will protect your feet and the bottoms ... Read the complete review
