These little gems are brilliant for walking in muddy areas. They are by no means glamourous and are not the thing to be seen in if you are fashion concious. Gaitors are water proof bits of material wich wrap around your lower leg with a little strap which goes underneath your foot to keep it all in place. These keep your lowe leg free from mud and water perfectly and mean you can have the comfort of your walking boot with the practicality of a wellington boot. I had never worn gaiters for walking or hiking before I climbing kilimanjaro last year, I had known what they were for and had seen others wearing them but I always thought that they looked over the top. But this in retrospect was a bit silly. It has taken me until this later time in my life to recognise the benefit of wearing gaiters. I am starting to take much more exercise out and about - both as a result of a little excess weight which I need to shift, plus the price of petrol. A couple of times a week I walk into town, a journey of about 3 miles which would otherwise cost me maybe as much as 2 pounds if I were to go in the car. It feels good and it does you good.
