There are so many brands of products available in the outdoors market today, that often is extremely hard to know what to look for, especially in the case of gaiters, which are seldom covered in outdoors magazines. They may make you look a bit stupid but they are another piece of valuble walking gear. Gaiters come in all shapes sizes and colours but do the same job but to different lengths. Their general purpose is to keep your feet dry, stop things entering your boots (when walking through heather, some always ends up in your socks) and keep your trousers clean. If you have a long waterproof jacket the need to wear waterproof trousers is also minimalised which makes walking more comfortable. Gaiters- they may look stupid but they are a life saver.If you participate in walks that involve mud and water I would advise a pair of Gaiters.Not only do they keep your feet dry(no boot is waterproof because they all have a hole in the top)they also protect your boots. Most Gaiters do the same job,you are looking at spending anywhere from £10 and upwards. The idea of the gaiter is to cover that huge hole at the top of your boot.They come up to just under your knee and protect your boots from the elements.
