During last weekend I decide to go along the Gower coast and ended up in Llangenech which is basically the surfers heaven in the Gower. The beach is vast and it was then that I saw my first kite buggying on the beach. I was draw to it straight away as it looked so unusual and stood open mouthed for a while watching prior to going and talking to the people doing it.

Kite buggying basically can be done on grass or sand and basically what you have is a stainless steel buggy in which you are sitting inches above the ground being pulled along by a four-line kite. You adjust the kite with your hands for the best winds and steer with you r feet, the kite lines are 75 foot long and I felt that the operators at time were nearly pulled out of the buggys.

Whilst talking to the operators they informed me that you can not just jump into a buggy that first you must learn to fly your kite and master it before getting into your buggy. Start with a small kite and work your way up don’t rip your arms out of their sockets.

When searching the net I actually found a site for the British Buggy Club at www.buggy.demon.co.uk, which gives quite a good insight into beach buggying and how to start and progress. They offer schooling, selling second hand buggies and actual video footage, which was quite good.

I took a number of one of the operators in Llangenech and I will definitely be contacting him in the summer and having a go at beach buggying it looks exhilarating, give it a go and see.
