Advantages: awesome, cheap for me, local

Disadvantages: it is in USA, Idaho Falls, Unlucky

The Apple Athletic Club was a small gym, with very few facilities, and a smaller pool. The new improved Apple Athletic Club is AWESOME!!!!!!!! No really it is.

On the ground floor:
The ground floor, through the 2 sets of double doors, in between which there are a list of today’s activities. Into the reception area:

The reception area:
To your left as you pass through the second set of double doors, there a some small silver tables, each with 2 chairs, and the new nursery which is of reasonable size, and can hold quit a few kids, trust me!!! One day I was with a friend and her child and we went to drop the child off in there, and DAMN there was a whole load of kids in there!! But there was also around 8 workers caring for the children, so they definitely were not being neglected. Directly in front of you is a barrier with a turnpike entrance thingy!! And a one way exit gate, just to the left of the turnpike thingy is the actual reception desk, manned by usually no less than 3 people. To the right is P.T.ELLIS, a private physical therapy clinic, which has got an awesome deal going with the gym, people hurt themselves working out, go to ELLIS, ELLIS gets to use the gym for his patients rehabilitation. Just next to ELLIS’ office, is a virtual golf simulator, sadly im not into beating the ground with sticks, in earlier civilizations this was known as witchcraft – I don’t want to burn alive!!. Ok so we are into the gym past the turnpike we get the offices:

Offices:
The offices are lined against a wall that runs parallel to the outside of the building, they are open plan, and to separate them there are 6ft partition walls, but they have no doors or glass fronts, as I say they are open plan. In between two of the offices is a small (really small) lounge area, which is also open, with a fish tank, TV and 4/5 comfy chairs. Ok so when you reach the office areas, you want to turn right:

The Basketball Cou
rt:
On the right hand side of the building is the basketball courts, 1 court runs the full length of the hall, and 2 more courts utilize the width of the larger court. At the north end of the courts are 2 full size and regulation racquetball courts, often used for league and tournament games, its always best to book a court before you show up – a good example of lessons learned. Before you reach the basketball courts though you want to go left, towards the changing rooms.

Changing rooms:
The changing rooms (well the men’s at least) are big spacious, and fully loaded with extras!!!! For those of us in the world that have well paid jobs, there is a corporate suite, with person ID codes on the door, inside there are lounge chairs, personal lockers a TV and oh a private Jacuzzi – nice. For the working class, there are restroom facilities, wash basins, weighing scales and water fountains. 3 large changing areas are sectioned off through walls of lockers, some of which are keyed entry systems and some of which are keypad entry systems – snazzy. There are 3 benches within each section also. Contained within the adult male and female locker rooms are: showers, both open plan and concealed, with one for disabled users, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, and my personal favorite, a steam room.

Remaining ground floor facilities:
Also on the ground floor, a large pool which sadly is only 6ft deep, so no diving allowed, a therapy pool which is a kind of weird greenish color, but is warmer than the regular pool, and nice to soak in, a youth gym which is a ping pong table, fusball table, sofa and some arcade games? Sounds more like somewhere to have fun rather than workout hehe. Outside there is a pool, which is cold all yr round, gotta be young or stupid (yes I did jump in) to go in there even in summer, and an outdoor Jacuzzi which is really nice and really hot, especially when it gets as cold as –10 outside!!!!!
The females also
have a private and less equipped gym next to their changing rooms, and as u can probably guess that me being a male means I cant go in to see what its like!!!!

So we are changed are ready to roll. Just before the basketball courts is a flight of stairs which lead into the main gym area, its probably best if you start here and work your way up them, otherwise you’ll never get to the gym!! At the top of the stairs:

Main Gym Area:
To the left at the peak of the stairs are the personal trainers offices, directly in front of you is the remaining area of ELLIS’ PT office, which has all kinds of funky machines that only people with injury can use, therefore I don’t have a clue what they do.

If you walk to the north face of the upper floor there is a huge glass front which looks out onto the car park and some of the town, there are running machines and cycles for you to use right there. Behind the cycles and running machines is a big hole in the floor!!! Which looks down onto the reception area. And on the left hand side of this there is room to stretch and a couple of beams attached to the walls at various heights, you know the ones dancers use.

Running parallel to the stairs you came up is the circuit training area, there is about 8 machines, each of which you use for 30 seconds and then move to the next machine, this time is aided by a talking clock which tells you when to switch, when to start and when to finish each exercise. In front of this area is the cardio workout area.

The cardio workout area comprises of a variety of different bikes, running machines, steppers and elliptical machines, about 30 in all, and usually all in use so you have to wait your turn to use one of these. To the right of the cardio area is the machine weight area.

The machine weight are is comprised of around 20 machines which exercise nearly all of the muscles in the body. There is also a free weight machine, which
you can change the weight, and height if the apparatus being used so you can personalize which muscles you want to work.

There is also a large free weights section, this includes apparatus for exercising major muscles, i.e. biceps, quad’s etc. and a large array of different size free weights.
Also on the top floor are 2 group fitness studios, used for aerobics, boxercise and step class, and also a spinning class area with about 15 bikes – this is one of the more popular group activities, its always full of people when I am there.

So the club already has a lot to offer, they offer fitness trainers (at a cost), basketball, wallball??? Whatever the hell that is, racquetball, swimming, Jacuzzis steam rooms etc.

The facility also offers a massage service which I am told is very good and quite inexpensive.

This is quite amazing considering what the original gym was like, and seeing as the new facility is less than 1 yr old I can imagine things can only get better, hopefully they can get better!!!

But for now the new facility is doing awesome, especially as I get 5 months membership for the price of one through my university!!!

APPLE WE LOVE YOU
