... br> Nikwax?..I can surely pick ?em can?t I...another exciting product... Prepare to be excited? I don?t know why this popped into my head, probably something to do with the fact that I?d been desperately plastering my motorbike boots in the stuff to try and stop the latest biblical downpour getting through on the way home. I do have Gore-tex boot liners but my feet get very heavy when the huge boots I wear soak up a bucket load each and it can be difficult to get my ...more

Premium Review hydration systems (387 words)

Rating:

Well, since I couldn't really tell where else to put this opinion on this site, here is a good enough place. The orginal 'hydration system' as far as I can see was the Camelbak from America. Then came Platypus and others, which have got better and better as time has gone on. Originally I thought, heck, I've got a water bottle that doesn't leak, why get a hydration system?- its something fancy you can put in the pack and then bit the valve, and hey presto, you have water. Ok, its easier to drink from, you don;t have to keep getting your water bottle out of your bag, but thats about it. Yes, that may be about it, but it ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hiking/Walking Equipment in general: Essential opinion to buying boots! (424 words)

If your boots are not comfortable, you are going to have a miserable day.Fortunately, the number and variety of boots on the market means that you should be able to find a comfortable pair. Some advice: *Decide whether you are looking for a light summer boot,a winter boot or an all rounder? As a a general principle,go for the lightest pair that will do the job.Walking in heavier boots than are required involves a lot of extra work, but may provide more protection and greater foot and ankle support. *Take time and shop around.A good retailer will be able to offer plenty of advice on which to base your choice *Try the boots on with your own ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Water-filled Platypus? (262 words)

Rating:

I have used Platypus waterbags for about three years now. I bought my first one (2.4L) because I needed to carry more water than I could hold with just two 1L Sigg bottles. Platypus bags look quite insubstantial when compared to other similar products like Ortlieb waterbags. I think that for the price difference, even if your platypus breaks after a couple of years you will have to have broken about three of them to make up the cost of one ortlieb. I have found them to be very resilient (I have actually used a full Platypus as a pillow, although I spent the whole night waking and checking to see if my head was wet, which it wasn’t). When empty they collapse into a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hiking/Walking Equipment in general: Sigg-tastic Sports Bottle (239 words)
by - written on 23/04/01 (Very useful, 380 readings)
Rating:

I love my Sports Sigg Bottle! Sigg are renowned for building indestructible water bottles, which can double as fuel carriers, or for any liquid really. This version is a special bottle for easy drinking whilst on the move. This is the ideal water bottle for me – it's in the middle of the range which goes from 0.33 to 1 litre. It's available in only the 0.75l size with the sports cap. This bottle is different to the standard Sigg bottles in two respects. Firstly – It has an indented body about an inch from the top, enabling you to grasp around it firmly. Secondly – the standard screw cap is replaced by a sports drinking ...  Read the complete review
