Advantages: Fresh air, wonderful scenery, not a computer in sight!
Disadvantages: 4 miles was quite demanding for the kids.
As I used to live in Devon, I am extremely lucky in the fact that I used to have plentiful, and beautiful, countryside right on my doorstep. Naturally, I am a keen country walker, although unfortunately none of my family are...until today!! I had a day off work (which is not a likely occurance!) and my kids were around my house, on half term, and bored stiff. They were moaning and groaning as I have no computers (apart from a P.C, which is apparently "rubbish"!), they were occupied with my T.V for a while as they were roaming around TeleText as I thought of things we could do. After I had turned down Bowling and Lasers, I suggested we go for a walk. This was greeted with curiousity as they, at first, thought I meant a walk into town. When I explained that I was talking about a country walk..with the possibility of an Ice Cream, they were sold to the idea!! It was a nice day, almost perfect walking conditions. It was fairly sunny, but no hot, and there was a nice coastal breeze. It turned out that they loved it. For young children, you wouldn't have thought they would have found a 4 mile country walk too appealing...but they did. I took a football along which they enjoyed playing with on the beach, and they got their promised ice-creams! If nothing else, I hope I have shown them that there is more to life than a computer. I really enjoyed myself as their conversations about their parents proved to be hilarious..and very insightful!!! Overall, I think that it was a fine day had by all, a grand day out, you could almost say!!

- 26/02/01 Welcome to dooyoo! Good opinion - maybe you could add some details about where exactly you walked and what there is to see. I'll be happy to re-rate accordingly for some more information! And well done for getting the kids out of the house and into nature! moomin |

- 24/02/01 Whereabouts in Cornwall? My parents-in-law live in St Mawgan near Newquay. And yes, there I can even interest my four and five year olds in walking! |
