Trampolining is an odd sport / activity, but it's one which all kids and adults tend to have shared enjoyment over despite the drastic difference in skill levels found. There is a general acceptance of all people in a fun and addictive way - trampolining is a largely un-competitive activity which conducts that friendly 'have a go' atmosphere parents encourage. This is a physical activity people should be encouraging their children to take up, and due to new and improved trampolines like this JumpKing model, safety has been made paramount with an ever increasing list of impressive safety features.
The 'JumpKing Oval POD Trampoline' is a 10ft in diameter secure circular frame, raised from the ground by less than a meter (87cm) and backed up with the addition of a 5ft high safety net to protect younger participants. Between the framework is a highly flexible circular material tightened to the edge by a series of 90 coiled springs which cross over to add strength. The coils are fastened well and the netting is also connected to the springs via intermittently tied strings which prevent the netting from sagging into the center and reducing the overall bounce area of the trampoline.
The netting is also made from a flexible material which can absorb the pressure points from flaying arms and legs as well as whole bodies excellently. There is no natural situation a child or adult could encounter which would result in fabric breach or a rupture - it is a strong and highly reliable safety addition. T
The entire weight of the product un-boxed is around 130 kg, quite a weight, meaning the trampoline requires too adults to lift and maneuver it into position once erected. The framework pads which run up to the netting are approximately 30cm in width and add another safety measure to the product. When crashing down at an odd angle or too far over position the pads provide extra softness to reduce any possibility of minor injury. If hit frequently (which they shouldn't be) the pads will start to rip and tear. This only happens over time and if treated with respect there'll be no problem. If I was given a chicken every time I saw my little brother having near damaging incidents and coming off clean, I'd be running a successful chicken farm and living a luxurious life in the country - sadly that wasn't one of my three wishes.
When you actually get on and use this product - as I have done on occasion - you'll find that even the heavier user will gain considerable height, with the trampoline retaining rigidity and a degree of dignity (unlike some of the activities participants). There is one issue here however, because when you do get the odd heavier bouncing customer, the whole product will tend to shake and slide (if placed on a hard surface) across the ground ever so slightly. This can be dangerous, and when you get a group of 4 or 5 rowdy 10 year olds the same can sometimes happen. I'd recommend having the trampoline routed in tall grass or set inside a pre-constructed rockery area - somewhere offering that little bit of increased structural soundness.
The way you get into and out of the trampoline is effective and safe. There's a zip running vertically across the entrance and three clip closers spaced evenly to provide extra safety. The only this I'd say about this set-up is, 'what kind of kid goes to the trouble of closing all the mechanisms before bouncing?' - not many. The system more likely promotes the nagging of worried parents from behind the kitchen window.
Overall, I like the fundamentals of the trampoline, but I dislike the over-complicating of the entrance and the shaking of the whole thing when bouncing gets a bit more intense. Add some structural rigidity and lower the price tag slightly, and I'll go ahead and buy another. For now however, it's a 3 star rating from me.
In May last year my mum decided to buy my kids this trampoline for the garden. They had previously had a small junior trampoline plus enclosure, but this was really only suitable for small children, one at a time, and my kids have always been big for their age and a bit daredevil in their approach.
The trampoline was then on offer in Asda for around £90, and is currently again on offer at Asda for £99, which for a 10 foot trampoline plus enclosure is a very bargainous price.
The trampoline came in parts in a tall thin box, and as usual my doting husband was given the task of assembling the trampoline. The frame itself was not too tricky, but adding the springs around the edge of the bouncing surface was hard as it has to be done under tension to make it taut and bouncy. My husband found this hard going on his hands and needed to wear thick gloves.
It was suitable for being assembled by one person. The only bit i had to help with was adding the net round the outside. This came as two poles which had to be linked together at the top, so the first link was easy, but my husband then found it impossible to bring the 2 ends together to make the hoop. This required two adults as it again was hard work and could have been dangerous if the kids had helped him.
Once assembled this trampoline does take up a good amount of space in our garden. To get into the enclosure, one side has a zip going about 1/3 of the way up the net. This is a double sided zip so it can be opened inside and outside. My children are far too small to climb onto the trampoline themselves, so we have left their old trampoline next to it to help them clamber up. My sister has the same problem with her older boys climbing up so leaves a stool to stand on next to the entrance.
The 10 foot diameter provides ample bouncing area for several children. Myself and my husband have also joined in the bouncing fun. We are careful not to overload it too much though, as i have seen my sisters trampoline has had too much weight/strain on it and now the springs have stretched slightly. This means the bouncing surface sags and is less bouncy.
This has been outside in the garden for 11 months and shows no sign of sun bleaching or the net disintegrating up to now. The only problem we have had is that our garden catches all the wind and it has lifted up and down, and i am a bit paranoid it will blow over and damage something or hurt someone. When it is windy, i find it easy enough to unclip the net myself. It sits in a groove on each of the posts and the hoop slots in. It requires a bit of strength, and if you were shorter than my 5foot 6 you might find it hard.
My only long term worry is my boys try to slide down the enclosures poles, and over time this will cause the polystyrene safety covering to disintegrate. We should get many years out of this piece of garden equipment.
I absolutely love this trampoline! bought it from Etoyszone <a href="http://www.etoyszone.co.uk/">Trampolines</a> a while back and its still looks as good as new. my kids absolutely love it and for once its a trampoline that looks good in your garden, I also find it very useful as my garden is a rectangular shape and a circular trampoline would of taken up a lot of space but luckily I can squeeze this in at the bottom of the garden. Would recommend! Simon
Every child I know loves trampolines and very few gardens seem to be without one. Ours was until lately and all my children kept asking for was a trampoline but I never thought I would get one in the corner of the garden where I wanted it to be.
We then came across the Jumpking and due to the way that the enclosure was it meant that we were able to fit it in the garden!
When we came to put it up we found it took a while but the instructions were easy enough to follow. The problems was putting the springs onto the trampoline but after helping a friend to put theirs on we knew that this would be hard. Putting the enclosure up was a task and took a number of us to do this! If I can give one bit of advice though get the kids out of the house whilst you assemble it all - we did at first but they were back before we finished and all they wanted to do was get on it even though it was not completed.
Although this was expensive compared to other trampolines of this size I am so pleased that we went for this one. It looks good in the garden rather than your bog standard trampoline and enclosure. It tends to sink into the background which is great as it means it does not take over the garden.
I feel that my children are also very safe on it as the enclosure is very secure and they are fastened in to it well so they should not fall out and there are no holes around the springs either so their feet cannot fall through. The enclosure does have to be tightened every now and again though to make sure that it is secure. The other advantage to this is the enclosure are the fibreglass poles that run across the top of it. I have seen so many of the usual trampoline enclosures get ruined because children hang off them but with this it is harder for the children to do this as it does not achieve anything so they give up which means for me that the enclosure should last longer.
This is a great quality trampoline and well worth spending the extra money on!
Last summer our trampoline gave up the ghost, we had a standard round one which only lasted a few years and it was only used for a few summers so disappointed is an understatement.
My and my husband have no children but we have many nieces and nephews in the family who love to come and play in the summer, we also like to entertain and do BBQ's for the family in the summer, so when the trampoline broke we just had to replace it so the kids would be amused.
After looking for another trampoline we decided to buy a better heavy duty trampoline that can be use by adults as well and not break after a few years, so we have now bought this jump king trampoline that offers all of this.
It is very expensive but I and positive that is will last and we have had so much fun already.
Jump King are a leading design company in manufacturing trampolines, with this Oval POD design they have excelled as it has a very different unique shape, which is oval and is 15ft long by 10ft wide.
Some maybe thinking this is no different to any other on the market, will I have to stress that it is made to the highest quality and all safety features are included, the best thing is this is very durable and gives a superb bounce ability, this is because is has over ninety supporting springs which are attached from the frame to the trampoline canvas.
It has the performance of a rectangular trampoline, making is very easy to have up to four people at a time playing on it at any one time, which was never really an option with the round trampolines you can buy for the garden.
The shape of it has also benefited us, although it is bigger than the round one we had this sits perfectly at the bottom of the garden and does not take up as much space, this is because of the two flat edges that can sit closely to a wall of garage making the whole thing very compact, unlike a perfectly round version which took up most of the garden.
This comes with it own safety enclosure cage which stands six feet above the actual trampoline base, so it is perfectly save for children and even the odd drunk that may have a go.
Some of you may wonder how you actually gain entry into the trampoline when it is caged, well this is very simple the trampoline as an access ladder from the ground onto the trampoline itself, that ladder has three small steps up to the trampoline making it very easy to get on to it, the ladder is very easy for everyone to use the kids found it easy and even my granny had a go, so this is very easy to access.
Once you hit the trampoline itself you unzip the 6ft enclosure and crawl in, the zip closure can be closed and opened from inside and out side the trampoline, for added security you can also clip it shut with the additional clips supplied, we have never found the need for these but if you want to lock kids in so they don't fall off after open the enclosure door them selves this is a very good idea. This is also great for locking husbands in as they have no way of getting out with this safety feature.
BUILDING THE TRAMPOLINE
This arrived flat packed and in four very large boxes, I have to say me and my husband were like two kids in a sweet shop when it first arrived and we couldn't wait to get it built.
All I have to say is how many monkeys does it take to fit a light bulb, we didn't have a clue at one stage we had my parents and the next door neighbours all trying to fit this together, but after an hour or so my mum found the instructions which really helped, I just wish we had looked for them in the first place.
The instructions were all pictured and told us how to build this step by step, this is not a job for one of two you will need at least four people to build it as people will need to hold it in place while one person screws it all together.
Once we found the instructions is was very straight forward to assemble and took roughly forty minutes, that was to build the trampoline and attach the safety enclosure.
The build quality of this is very good and I have no doubt that this will be around for years, as it is made from large steel tubes which are over two inches thick and span the whole trampoline, making it very strong and durable.
Due to the heavy duty steel and compact design, this trampoline can take up to four adults and eight children at a time. We have had four adults on it at one time and there was plenty of room for more, but be were that heavy the whole trampoline started to sink into the grass.
The safety enclosure comes in one solid piece, it is made of a light weight mesh material that it rip resistant and weather proof, it is supported by six 6ft long brackets and brackets that bow outwards to give the whole enclosure extra strength.
The whole enclosure is attached to the trampolines base, via these heavy duty brackets so it is very unlikely that this will full down of not support anyone falling into it.
PRICE / AVAILABILITY
This Oval POD 15ft x 10ft Trampoline cost £429.00 but this included next day delivery and VAT, it can be purchased from www.mytrampolines.co.uk
The safety enclosure, ladder, trampoline, enclosure clips and a shoe net, was all included in the price.
If you think a standard round trampoline can cost £180.00 and then an extra £100.00 for the safety enclosure and even more for the added extras, this is not a bad price as it comes with a 10 year frame warranty and a 3 year spring warranty, which is great as it can be left out side all year round, unlike other trampolines that void warranty if it is left out side.
The oval design was very important to us as a family as we love to entertain in the garden, and having fun is one of the major attractions even for the adults, so this design trampoline has not only fitted in perfectly but the adults and kids can play on it at the same time, we have had the round trampolines but we found only one person could play at anyone time as it always pulled you in to the centre of the trampoline and we had many accidents, so this has worked out very well as you can fit up to four people on it at a time making it very fun to play on.
This is the crème de la crème of trampolines for me and I am sure my family will agree, my dad and husband when on it and as they are both on the heavy side they were managing to jump so high, they nearly cleared the enclosure but is was purely down to there weight and them jumping in unison, so providing you don't be stupid and use it as it is intended you will have a great time as it is very easy to do summersaults etc with this.
All of the issues I had about safety has been resolved with this trampoline and I love the fact that adults can have fun too, I would class the as a professional trampoline although it is not sold as one, the bounce ability is fantastic and even my seven year old niece is becoming quite the professional and now wants to take up gymnastics as she has mastered summersaults and complex jumps, not that her mum is to impressed as she is getting pestered constantly and I have to say I have not seen as much of my niece as I have in the past few weeks.
I have to say I recommend this, yes it is expensive but is will last and you can have so much fun, even me and my husband have been know to go out and play on it, so my saying we bought it for the kids is a little white lie as we love it as much as they do.
10ft x 15ft. Comes with free safety enclosure and ladder.
