... that was nothing compared to how I felt, I was unbelievably petrified but had to be there for her and watch. She lost and cried and this happened again at the next one. After a while, I'd say about a year, her fitness level shot up and she lost about 1 1/2 stone. She had been fairly chubby but she's 15 now and weighs less than she did when she was 10. Her fighting skills are brilliant because of the training. They do cardio vascula workouts like jogging and sparring and they do muscle training like press ups. They...more

My daughter did karate from the age of 5. When she turned 11, she got her black belt and decided she wanted to expand. She went to a kickboxing club about ten minutes away from our house. It is the Englih Contact Karate Association (ECKA). ECKA have clubs allover britain including tipton, coventry, london, milton keynes and some abroad including in Iran. It has been around for some years now and it's a good association to be with if you're considering starting up training. If you want to know more about this, here's the association website: http://www.ecka.co.uk/index.php During training, other than workingon flexibility, stamina and strength, you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fancy something a bit different? (356 words)

I started American Kick boxing four weeks ago and I can’t get enough. I started this because I was fed up of gyms and aerobics, OK they are good for you but I have a very short attention span and I felt like I was going nowhere fast. I wanted something with a bit more of a goal to it. I spotted an advert in the local paper and I thought why not? The first thing I noticed when I arrived for my first lesson was the variety of people there. There was everyone from a 8 year old boy to a forty(ish) woman, I had expected the room to be full of young men anxious to show off their prowess, I was pleasantly surprised. The lesson starts with an intense ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kick Boxing: *Try for stress release* (248 words)

I must warn you that after my first kick boxing class, I literally went home to bed. My whole body ached, it does get much easier though. I enjoyed my first class and when you enjoy something you find you make that extra bit of effort. This is an energetic class like martial arts and requires a great deal of stamina. Classes are not all about fighting, my classes included jumping, skipping( it improves co-ordination) and sprinting a lot. Bored of the girlie aerobics and not too keen on tennis/batminton/netball etc. I was introduced to kickboxing by an amateur kickboxer. I was persuaded to attend one session, I was told that if I didn't like it I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kicking your way to a fitter life (196 words)

In response to a question I've been asked since I wrote this review, you can start kickboxing at any age, it will benefit you. I've only been doing kickboxing for a few weeks, but I am seeing benefits already. I can recommend it to anyone who wants one of the following, to be better trained for self defence, to try for belts in a martial art, to enter legal tournament fights or for a fitter body. I'm guessing the last one of those is most peoples favoured reason to consider kickboxing. And yes the classes tend to be pretty intense but they are enjoyable, and you leave each one with a sense of proudness. Martial arts tend to be good as ...  Read the complete review
