Advantages: Fairly good range of exercises available
Disadvantages: As the machine warms up, it becomes to easy
The Lateral Thigh Trainer is one of those products that's advertised to death on TV. Shopping channels show hours of footage, and market it as if it's a miracle cure for obesity.
Firstly, if you're going to get one of these, I would recommend not buying from the TV channels, where it can cost up to £100 - get one from the web and you can save a lot of money.
But does it actually work?
The machine itself is fairly large and heavy, but it can be carried from room to room if needs be. It's fairly well constructed, and you don't feel like you're going to break it when it's in use. There is a small lcd screen on the unit which measures calories burned and number of steps, but it's very basic technology.
Included in the package is an instructional DVD, which talks you through some basic step routines - whilst at the same time being fairly patronizing.
There is a lever on the front of the unit which changes the resistance of the steps to male the work rate easy or hard. However, when the lever is set to what is supposedly the most difficult setting- 'slow', after a few steps the resistance becomes as easy as the easiest mode. This is a shame as it takes the difficulty from the workout.
After using the Lateral Thigh Trainer, and following the DVD, I felt moderately exercised - this isn't a bad thing, as this is what some are looking for. With the exercise range this machine offers, I would not expect a drastic change in fitness or shape for quite a while. However, if you want a light exercise, and you're not in a mad rush to shed pounds, then this may be the product for you.
Summary: May suit those looking for light exercise
