Mjolnir cricket bat
Advantages: Thick edges, great sweet spot
Disadvantages: Too heavy for me
My club purchased this bat as a club bat, meaning that it is placed in the club kit bag and is accessible to anyone who wants to use it. It cost the club about £170, as we brought it pre-prepared, meaning it had been knocked in and would ready for immediate use.
I've used it in the nets several times and in half a dozen matches. The first I noticed was the amazing middle it has. If you stike the ball on the sweet spot the ball races off of it. You get very good value for your shots. When playing driving shots I got plenty of runs. Howver, evening though the bat is said to weigh 2.9lbs I have to say it feels a little heavier than that. The pick up is not as good as with other bats that I have used. consequently, when playing off the back foot, with either cut or pull shots, I have noticed that I am often late on the shot and I miss the ball all together. I have therefore summised that this is not the bat for me.
The edges of this bat are extremely thick. If the you catch the ball with an edge you will often get four runs, if you are not caught that is. The grip is superb. despite being used by a number of different players, the grip shows no signs of general wear and tear.
Another good feature to this bat is the toe. Often you will stuggle to get any distance on the ball if you strike it with the toe of the bat. However, even the toe can hit the ball sweetly and it is another opportunity to get runs.
Everything about this bat is good. However, because it is too heavy for me I cannot use it to full efficiency. Despite this I feel obligated to award the Mjolnir Newbury bat four out of five Dooyoo stars.
It's worth paying a little more for, just make sure you are comfortable with the weight.
Summary: Always buy a bat that is appropriate to your strength
