Advantages: Light, strong and interchangable heads
Disadvantages: Price
Being reviewed here is Nike composite shaft, used with several different heads throughout the years.
Back when I started playing wooden hockey sticks was what everyone used, they didn't change much apart from curve in the blade and the pattern on the shaft, these cost between £17-£35 (depending on brand and endorsement).
Then came the composite shafts, now the advantage of these were (unlike the wooden ones) when the head broke (which they often do) you could slot in a new head and be playing within minutes, however you could pay up to £100 just for the shaft, and another £30 for the head.
I was lucky enough to win this shaft and bought a head to give it a try, using mainly Easton heads with a lot of curve and face on them I suddenly realised there were many advantages to this type of shaft. The main thing being that while the composite was strong and durable it would offer a good amount of flex (without being bendy) which meant getting lots of power and control on your shots.
Also as the shaft is hollow, it's about half the weight of a traditional stick but again much stronger (mine has lasted 7 years so far)
These have come down in price and the technology is even better these days, well worth buying, but make sure you have a couple of spare heads just incase.
Summary: Well worth the inital outlay
