Advantages: Cheap and it folds

Disadvantages: No luxury wheels here

Having seen children of age 5 or so out and about on these two wheeled scooters, I decided to look into getting one for my daughter. Like anything these items vary quite a lot in price, I was looking at a microlite one at the £50 mark, but when I saw this Ozbozz one when shopping at Sainsbury's for £9.99 I decided it was worth a go.

The scooter has adjsutable height bars, and the manufacturer says it is for use from 5 years, I think a 4 year old with good gross motor skills could probably give it a go. My daughter shares my lack of co-ordination but quickly grasped how to scoot along on this, though she has yet to use the brake at the back (it depresses on the back wheel), and actually has had no real need to do so. The steering is quite easy, eased by ball bearings and the actual build quality of this item is surprisingly good.

These scooters really do ease the school run, kids happily scoot along on them, this one folds and so can be carried or put on a buggy once it is not needed or when legs tire. It weighs about 2 kilos, so is relatively light to carry, though it is not very easy to fold and has to be pulled with quite some force, but at this price I think that is acceptable.

The wheels seem to have worn quite well - I think more expensive models may have quieter gel wheels, but we have found the wheels to be fine for our use, and fine on most surfaces though not great on more bumpy pavements. The handlebars are sufficiently padded and easy for a small child to use, they can detach to fold down smaller but we haven't really ever needed to do this.

Having seen a small child come off one of these I do make my daughter wear a helmet to use her scooter, and surprisingly she has yet to complain about this. I think this inexpensive scooter is actually better than some of the more expensive 3-wheeled versions around, by using it my daughter seems to have learned to balance so this may help her learn to ride a bike in the future.

This scooter gets frequent use and yet bar a little customisation with High School Musical stickers, it looks as good as new. Maximum weight is 50kg but I must confess to having had a sneaky go despite being well over that weight.

This is a good low risk buy if you are looking into buying a scooter for a child and are not sure if they will like it or not, I would recommend it and so, I think would my daughter who really loves it!

Summary: For under a tenner a great buy
