Advantages: Easy to use, very light, cheap solution

Disadvantages: Can be quite flimsy at full extension

When it comes to Golf I would consider myself to still be classed as a beginner. I have been playing for about 5 years but the opportunities to actually get onto a Golf course are few and far between. So when I do finally get out for a round or two I am guaranteed to lose at least 5 balls into various ditches and ponds around the course. So for my birthday last year I asked Jenny to get me the PGA Golf ball retriever.

The idea is to give you a light, portable device to help you retrieve your gold balls from inaccessible bushes and ditches. In the past I've ended up leaving them, which has cost me a fortune in new Golf balls. I thought it would be a good idea, especially if it means I lose 2 balls a round less it will have been worth it.

It comes with a retractable shaft that when fully retracted is about 38 cm's. Once your ball goes flying into the bushes you can extend the retriever up to 202 cm's to reach your lost ball. The extension on the retriever can be quite handy depending on where your ball ends up but the longer the extension the harder it is to keep under control. At its full extension of 202 cm's it gets quite bendy and that makes it much harder to control.

On the end of the telescope is small plastic scope with a clip on the end to hold the ball in once it has been picked up. This is pretty easy to dig in around the ball and get hold of it easily. Pulling it back in is pretty easy as well, you can either juts turn around or start to retract the shaft, length by length till you can unclip your ball. The Golf ball retriever is an officially endorsed PGA Tour product and while official endorsements at times can be a bit wishy washy this is one that certainly lives up to its endorsement.

Overall this is a pretty decent product. At just £9.99 from amazon it's an affordable solution to the constant loss of Golf balls. It fits easily into your bag and is fairly light weight making it easy enough to slide into your bag and carry around without noticing any additional weight. The only place I haven't been able to get my ball back from with this so far has been a lake, but for ditches and bushes it works every time.

Summary: A decent, cheap retrival device

I've had one of these for years...There's water hazards on about 13 out of the 18 holes on my home course, so it's an absolutely essential bit of gear...If you ever get over to Dublin let me know and we can play a round at my home club (My treat)...Ken :O)
