Advantages: Easy to use, gives fast results.
Disadvantages: Springs can be noisy
Since having my first baby ten years ago, managing my weight has been a constant battle, and as the years roll on, I'm losing badly! Over the years I have purchased masses of fitness equipment that all come with a promise of a better body, but as we all know, the novelty quickly wares off if you don't get instant results and they end up languishing in the loft.
A friend recommended that I buy a trampette and after she told me that 5 minutes of jogging on this is the equivalent of 20 minutes jogging on the road, I had to get one. There are various makes on the market, and the prices vary considerably, but I bought the cheapest that I could find believing that there can't be much difference between the brands, and I ended up with the Pro Fitness Trampette, coming in at a fairly reasonable £20 from Argos.
The trampette comes flatpacked in a cardboard box, but it really isn't rocket science when it comes to putting it together. Simply screw on the six legs tightly and you are away! The box comes with the usual advice about consulting your doctor before participating in strenuous exercise, if you are pregnant, and if you start to feel ill etc..but skimming over this, I just wanted to play with my new toy!
I got on and jogged, and I was really surprised at how easy it was. This is nothing like jogging on the road, which I really struggle with, but I was definitely getting up a sweat, and my pulse rate was rising. I did not find that I was getting short of breath, and I happily carried on jogging quite quickly for twenty minutes - I strapped a pedometer to my leg, and I had done over 2000 steps in this time. Along with the whole breathing issue I have with road running, I also have the problem of being....um ...well blessed up top? This can be uncomfortable and embarrassing, but jogging on the trampette takes this issue away because of the lack of heavy impact. The impact of every step is absorbed by the suspension on the trampette, so I have never had a problem with shin splints or aching joints for the whole time that I have been using it.
Jogging on the road is boring, and I hate is because I'm so self conscious; the trampette takes away all of this. No one can see me getting sweaty and smelly when I'm in my own lounge, and I watch the TV to pass the time away. I do have to have the volume up quite high, because mine squeaks a fair amount, but I can easily deal with that!
This is the ideal piece of exercise equipment in my opinion. I've had mine for about six months now, and I try to use it for half an hour every day. My bum, calves and thighs are a lot more toned and I feel a lot fitter within myself. I've lost over a stone and I'm a lot happier. If I feel like a more heavy workout, I get some cans of beans out of the cupboard and pump my arms to burn even more calories, and to tone up my arms a bit. When I'm not using it or if someone calls round, I simply unscrew the legs and store it behind the sofa.
Its true what they say, exercise is addictive, and I feel really good when I've finished my daily half hour. I can't imagine not owning this now, and I miss it when I go on holiday (I know, a bit sad!). If you are trying to lose some weight or simply tone up, but can't stand the idea of exercise, my recommendation is that you sell all of your unwanted and unused exercise equipment (you will probably get a fair amount of money for it as I'm guessing it's in tip top condition?!) and buy one of these.
Summary: A ladylike way to exercise!
