Advantages: Fun!
Disadvantages: space when not using
I'm not sure what to call this little trampoline - some people call it a mini trampoline, others a rebounder or a trampette. I'm going with rebounder - sounds more professional.
I got mine from Argos years ago. Every now and again I dust it off and have a wee go. Why have I not used it more often? Sheer and utter laziness. Not going to make the excuse that I don't have the time - it takes less than 10 minutes to get the benefits.
Nope, I have no excuse, and am absolutely disgusted with myself. I actually do enjoy using it. When I get around to it that is. I always have the same thought as I jig up and down - I really like this, why don't I do it more often? If I am really stressed and put some good music on, I hop on and in no time have rid myself of all that pent up rage, anger or frustration. (Health benefits for the boyfriend too then).
So if you also have one hidden in a cupboard, in the spare room, behind the door or in the garage, this is for you too. I am going to start afresh. I am not a large person, but there is no tone whatsoever on my body. I tried to find some, but alas, it vacated the premises many years ago when I wasn't looking. I am totally disgusted by what I see in changing room mirrors. Time is passing and it's now or never.
I am hoping to re-inspire myself with forgotten facts about why rebounding is so good for you. I hope it inspires you too.
The first fact that should shame anyone into jumping on one right now, is that apparently many fit people over 90 rebound 10 minutes every day.
Don't have the time? SIX minutes on a rebounder is equivalent to walking 3 miles. 10 minutes is equal to jogging for 30 minutes, without the embarassment (have you seen me jog?), expensive running gear, bad weather and a 40% chance of damaging your knees.
You can lose 300 calories in 20 minutes! Hurrah!
You can do it watching TV or listening to your favourite music.
Rebounding helps circulation (think of that cellulite ladies), increases mobility, aids weight loss, enhances digestion, relieves pain, reduces stress and tension, stimulates metabolism which burns more calories. Boosts the lymphatic immune system (by up to15%!) which releases toxins from your body. Conditions and strengthens the heart. Lowers blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Improves eyesight! Helps build new energy and revitalises your life. Phew. Knackered just reading that bit.
Rebounding is a 'no impact' exercise. People with injuries, or suffer from arhritis, rheumatism, asthma, ME, diabetes, MS, cystic fibrosis, Parkinsons, heart complaints and depression can all feel the benefits of rebounding. (Always check with your doctor before undertaking a new exercise regime).
Well I am now suitably shamed. Why oh why have I not been doing it?
I could look like Gisele right now. 10 minutes a day is nothing. I can do that. Will be revealing a brand new body come Spring.
This little rebounder currently costs just £19.99 from Argos. Diameter is 92cm. It is fun to use and the legs screw on and off for better storage...
Not that you'll be storing it, will you?...
Summary: Best all round exercise.

- 28/10/09 Hi carcraig - I checked the website I got it from and it does say that! I had no idea, so looked on others and they quote 300 in 20 minutes! Yikes. Have updated thanks. |

- 27/10/09 300 calories in 6 minutes?? Are you sure...? I think that might be a typo! It's more like 100-280 calories over 30 minutes....(http://www.di etandfitnessresources.co. uk/shopping/equipment/x00 27.htm) |
