Advantages: Friendly, Good equipment
Disadvantages: A bit on small size, no pool
LOCATION: Cannons Health Club Richmond Athletic Ground Kew Road Richmond COST: £27 joining fee £51 per month fee which includes all facilities other fees are available that allows joint membership for more than one Cannons club. Facilities: 6 Squash Courts Sunbeds Punch bags Sauna Fully Equipped Gym Fitness classes Club Bar Off the facilities that I have used. Squash Courts: Richmond has a very active squash club and league system, with regular club fixtures and competitions. The courts have all just recently been refurbished, with the court been resurfaced and all the walls re-painted. Availability of the courts is usually good but it can sometimes be hard getting one on a Tuesday or Sunday evening as these are club competition nights. The club can also provide professional coaching for those players who want to progress their playing level. THE GYM: The gym has the usual mixture of Cardio-vascular machines and resistance machines, the club also has a good selection of free weights available for member use. On joining the club, Cannons gives every member a free introduction to all the machines, showing the proper settings and how to operate safely. The staff at the gym then prepare a excersise program dependant on the results you want to achieve. Now and again it can prove difficult to get on some of the more popular pieces of equipment, such as treadmills, rowers or abs machine' The busiest times of the day tend to be between 6:30pm and 8:00pm. Changing Facilities and Sauna: The changing rooms are fairly large and provide ample locker space for secure storage of belongings. There is a small sauna available which doesnt tend to get busy. There is six showers available along with free hair dryers and shower gel, moisturisers and hand creams all for customer use. General: The club also advertises for member day
out and activity outside the club, such as golf days, climbing days etc, which all Cannons club participates in. These tend to be very busy and booking well in advance is recommended. The only downsides I have about this club is that it can be quite expensive if you want to sign in a non-member, but the club do allocate each member a couple of free guest passes every couple of months. The only other downside I have with this club is that there is no pool, which I am sure many memvbers would find benificial. The atmosphere of the gym is very relaxed and welcomes everyone of all shapes and ability. The staff are friendly and approachable and are always available to give advice or reccomendations.
