Advantages: comfortable, take crampons, durable
Disadvantages: not so waterproof maybe as gore-texlined boots, (cost), (looks)
I have had my Scarpa SL boots for three years now. (Technically this review is based on a previous version of the boots but should still stand). The pair I bought didn't need breaking in at all - they were comfortable straight out of the box. I've never had blisters (though I think two pairs of good socks helps here.) Of course, feet are individual and these may not suit everyone. Try them in the shop and ask if you can try them around in your house before committing. As they are leather they are fairly waterproof but if you wade around in bogs or water, your feet will get damp eventually. I've looked after them and they have done me well. They are quite scratched up now and probably not as waterproof as they were but they still function well and the sole is still in excellent condition. I've used them for scrambling (grade 1/2) and have full confidence in their grip. They will also take a flexible crampon for winter use making them a 3-4 season boot (but make sure the crampons fit properly before buying.) I've worn these boots on the mountains in winter with and without crampons with no problems. Maybe not as trendy as some of the fabric boots but don't let that necessarily put you off. Have been voted Trail Magazine best 3-4 Season boots for at least a couple of years if memory serves.

- 17/02/03 Very good first review. Welcome to dooyoo. Hope we see more of your reviews soon. Its nice to have fresh faces on the site. Just a suggestion to get yourself known a bit. Read rate and leave comments that way you will get yourself known around the site. I know this isnt perfect but its the way it works I'm afraid.
