I will start off by saying sorry if this opinion is in the wrong place.I am a mum of two and felt it important to let other parents know what shoes are ideal for toddlers. The first thing to remember is that there is no rush.Going barefoot encourages the feet to deveolp and strenghen. It may be weeks from the time your child takes his/hers first steps until she/he is ready and steady enough to walk outside. Generally you should wait four to six weeks from the time she/he firsts starts walking until buying his/her first pair of shoes. When you decide its time make sure that you go to a shoe shop that has specially trained staff to measure your childs foot.If you can go on a weekday when the shop is not to busy and when your child is not tired or irratable it can pay to take a favourite toy to keep her/him amused while you look around. Those first shoes should be soft and flexible capable of been bent in all directions to allow as much natural movement as possible with breathing uppers and fully adjustable fastening.Second hand shoes are a false economy because they will already be moulded to another childs feet and a bad fit could cause problems in later life slippers should fit properly as well and will need to be replacer each time you buy a bigger sized shoe. Staff in the shoe shop will use a foot gauge,a gadget with a sliding scale and adjustable strap which they will slide your childs foot in to find a measurement.Dont worry if your child makes a fuss the staff will be used to this.Childrens feet are measured in half sizes with up to six widths fittings from c to h it is not unuseal for one foot to be a slighty different width or length from the other. The shoe should be designed around the shape of an infants foot-slim at the heel and wide at the front.Always keep an eye on your childs shoes to make sure they are still the right size . FROM BABY BOOTS TO SCHOOL SHOES. 1)Before he/she can walk, you may want to put h
er/him in booties to keep her/his feet warm . 2)Her/his first shoes should be in good quality soft leather properly fitted. 3)Canvas sandals for the summer are inexpensive and practical. 4)Trainers offer flexibility and good grip for your growing child. 5)For nursery school choose sturdy shoes with velcro fasteners that your child can undo his/herself. I hope this opinion is useful.
