These balls enable you to develop your core strength. I attend a half hour abs class on a few occassions a week, where the Sissel exercise ball (also referred to as the swiss ball) is put into practice. There are many variations on how to use this - regular situps using the ball to support your lower back, push ups - making them more challening by not only having your legs raised, but having to stablise yourself as well. We also use them to kneel on and maintain an upright position - harder than you might imagine. As gym equipment goes, its value in correlation to its effectiveness is second to none. Sissel's swiss ball is in my opinion the most versatile, and essential piece of gym equipment, be you an avid gym goer, or a home fitness person. A good exercise ball can increase one's core body strenght and work ones stability. Doing classic exercises such as a situp, on a swiss ball makes it more effective, since it is harder to work the upper legs, and one can really feel it in the upper abdominals. The pushup is also an exercise that benefits highly from Swiss balls - using an unstable surface such as the swiss ball, also works out the rotator cuffs, increasing stability.
