I have taught swimming for eight years part-time, and have swum for the County and Borough in my hey day. I swam from the age of about 8 until i was 12 and then again as a master from the age of 18ish. Swimming pools have chlorine in the water but apparently it is not this that stings your eyes, it is when too many people wee in the water and it reacts with the chlorine making the water acidic and therefore stinging your eyes. So please don't be lazy - get out of the water and go to the toilet! It is because of this, and the fact i was regularly in the water for 2hrs plus that i needed a good pair of goggle.
