Advantages: Fit well
Disadvantages: NONE
I have taught swimming for eight years part-time, and have swum for the County and Borough in my hey day. I swam from the age of about 8 until i was 12 and then again as a master from the age of 18ish.
Swimming pools have chlorine in the water but apparently it is not this that stings your eyes, it is when too many people wee in the water and it reacts with the chlorine making the water acidic and therefore stinging your eyes. So please don't be lazy - get out of the water and go to the toilet!
It is because of this, and the fact i was regularly in the water for 2hrs plus that i needed a good pair of goggle. I tried many different pairs but as i have small eyes which are set closely together i found it difficult to get a pair that fitted well enough to stop the leaking.
The speedo speed socket are perfect. They have soft ruber around the edge which sticks to the eye socket and holds in place. The nose piece is soft plastic (the hard plastic ones dig in the bridge of your nose!) and closely fitted, although it is not adjustable like some pairs. The silicone head strap is a double strap althought being one piece defeats the point of a double strap system (if one snaps the other stays in one piece so your goggles don't fall off at an important time)
Importantly too is their anti-fog system. This does deteriorate over time but is very good for the first month or so and stay lovely and clear allowing you to swim without having to stop and de-fog!
You can get these goggles in two styles. First is the plain style as per the picture and the colours are black blue or silver and you will pay around £15. You can also get the above colours in metallic screen (like a reflective glass) but these are around £20.00 and £5 for a bit of bling is well over the top!
I will only wear these goggles now and they do last around a year (although if training daily i would half that). They are expensive but cheaper goggles are false economy! If using for competition and training i would have one pair for each occassion. I have been using these goggles for almost 10 years so they are a classic that i hope will be going nowhere!
Summary: The best - THE END
