There is one line that divides the court between the front and the back and a second from that dividing line to the back of the court that separates the left and the right half of the court. Within each of these two back boxes are smaller service boxes. These lines on the floor only count during a serve and then become irrelevant. Now on to the walls.... The fr...more

As an avid fan of racquet sports and exercising just enough to stave off death for that little bit longer I am always on the lookout for ones I can actually play without wanting to set fire to my equipment. My general skill levels dictate that tennis, table tennis, real tennis, racquetball, speedball, lacrosse ... in fact any game that isn't badminton ... are seemingly not for me. But then I was introduced to squash and I can quite honestly say that this is one of the most enjoyable if somewhat exhausting games you can play. ~~~~~~~~~ The Rules ~~~~~~~~~ All you need is a court, an opponent, a racquet, a ball and a vague ...  Read the complete review

Our family sport is Squash - my father, mother, and older brother and sister all play to a high standard. At the age of 11, my parents thought it was time to coach and train me at our local sports centre. 14 years on, I have gone from strength to strength, and I find squash to be one of the most physically demanding activities a person can do. What is squash? =========== Squash is an indoor racquet game played by two opposing players in a four walled squash court. The premise is to hit the ball at the front wall so that when it bounces off, your opponent cannot return the shot. Every time your opponent cannot return that shot, you ...  Read the complete review

aka The Beginner's Guide to Squash ~ WHY DO ANYTHING? ~ Because life's there for doing things. ~ WHY SPORT? ~ Because your body is a temple, you only get the one and if you don't use it, you lose it (the fit side of you that is). Sport improves your stamina, muscle strength, speed, reflexes, coordination and balance, leaving you better equipped to handle the onslaught of time - I kid you not. Getting hot and sweaty flushes your system out and revitalises mind as well as body. When you're fit, you feel better about yourself. If you're not fit then setting down that road, step by ponderous step, makes you feel ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The game to be played in a small, quiet room! (572 words)

You have a game, you come out, have your shower, go home and pass out with a happy smile on your face and a whole set of newly exercised muscles. The game of squash (popularised by big fat 40 year old company chairmen) is one of the greatest forms of exercise known to man (at least I think so). It's fast and energetic, it's easy to learn the basic rules and the cost of a game is not very expensive. The basics: ----------- Always begin with a serve from the right. The court (besically a big room with lines drawn all over it) is split up as follows: Floor - Broken into 2 halves, front and back. The back is further ...  Read the complete review

I started playing squash when I was very young, since my parents played. Now I didn't play for a very long time, but since I learnt at a very young age I quickly picked it up again. I started playing again about a year ago. Squash has three main elements; fitness, technique and intelligence. Unlike other sports all three are of equal importance if you wish to become a good player. Firstly since it is a very fast game you have to be able to move around the court very quickly to keep up. This is both technique and fitness, since you must be able to change direction very quickly. Also you are often playing from a long time, a best of five match (I ...  Read the complete review
