Stateside Skate Helmet
Advantages: Good strength from material, established / child-liked looks!
Disadvantages: Maybe a little over-priced at £15? or maybe not...
When skating, riding, or completing any other physical activity which has a high risk of failure, be it minor or major, a helmet is perhaps the most necessary and important safety equipment anyone can own. Helmets protect our most vital and complex organ which also happens to be the most delicately positioned, the brain. Though it might be seen as an unlikely occurrence, hitting your head can still kill if hit with enough furiousity, so surely it's not too much to ask to buy a protective helmet for around £15.00 - the price of this particular product model.
This product combines a good quality, patterned exterior plastic coating with a bouncy foam interior layer to add protection and give the helmet its functional use. When you open the box this product comes in you are supplied with not only the helmet, but also some sticky-back foam strips to be placed within the product so that it can be subtly transformed to suit any head. Prior to this, the helmet can be bought in different sizes, so the overall experience of wearing one of these can be personalised excellently.
the strap gives the helmet stability upon the head and is a vital addition to the fabric of the product. Its material is tough and doesn't flex much, meaning the strap has to be adjusted using the two plastic clips located on each strand. If the material did flex it would undermine the functional performance of the helmet, as it would be more likely to spring off your head. I think the strap works well in unison with the helmet bulk, it is connected at the right points and offers the user a comfortable experience all considered.
The 'army' camouflage exterior adds to the products 'urban' look and feel. The style is almost retro it's so old and recognisable, and I think kids especially enjoy the theme and vibe it gives off. Possibly some children would find the army look a bit childish and would prefer a matt black finish of some description. Also, they may like to be able to add stickers to the helmet to personalise it a bit. Luckily, this product comes in a range of colours not illustrated in the Dooyoo picture above, so this can be achieved if you wearer permits.
All in all I like the styling, the protective quality and the usefulness of the product. I would trust myself or my child to be protected when falling from their bike or blades, and I think (despite this not having have occurred yet) that a direct hit of relatively large magnitude to the head area whilst wearing one of these would prove un-damaging to the person involved.
Summary: Protect your little athlete!
