... but I know several people who sail less often or inshore, who use them as their one and only radio. With this kind of price tag, its crazy to go to sea without a VHF radio. The unit is very light, and when you see it in the flesh, even more compact than you imagine from the adverts. Charge time is around 6 hours using the mains charger supplied, and I have yet to run the battery flat, despite once leaving it on for 7 hours. been using a pair of sx-micro 90's since 1995,
we run a dive support boat and a backup rib.
i find using the radios regularly keeps them in tip top condition, once a week i leave them switched on over night to drain the batteries. still using the original batteries ten years on.
I find charge time is more like ten hours now tho, not the six as suggested.

The SX Micro-90 is probably the commonest hand held marine VHF you see in use around the UK (or certainly in the circles I move in). With a price tag of around £149 retail, it is significantly cheaper than the competition, but repeatedly compares well in performance tests in the various magazines. For the bargain hunter, this radio is occasionally available even cheaper, my own costing £100 in auction (new).
